Thank goodness. I only get decent frame rates at minimum settings with Civ 5, and I wouldn't want to shell out $500 just to play Beyond Earth.
Of course the biggest issue with Civ5 is the completely subpar MP code, but even though they are promising 8 player MP, I'm not sure they have the time and resources to do the complete rewrite that MP needs, but one can hope.

You could always play it in 8 bit mode

Sorry, but these assumptions are just this - assumptions.I am happy with this decision because it means more time spent on polishing a known factor than wasted on reinventing the wheel which would have more bugs for a longer time. reusing engines means less bugs (I assume). Also, better ROI which means 2K will be more willing to invest more in expansions to keep it alive if the first product wasnt so expensive to develop.
Well....With regards to computer power, the only problems I have with civ5 is the slow turn turnover in late large games. (...) And if I have youtube on my second screen or some movie playing whenever the diplo screen would popo up the videos would stall until everything is resolved which took SECONDS.
That's what I do already. Initially, it was because I had a really bad graphics card. But once I got a better laptop, it wasn't all that necessary, but I find it so much faster for me to recognize tiles in strategic mode that I only switch to normal view ever so often for aesthetic purposes alone.
