Will Civilization IV be able to take advantage of multi-CPU systems?

One of the downsides I see with Civ3 is that when your and your opponents' civilizations grow large, the game slow down dramatically between the rounds because of all the calculation needed to be done. One way to help cope with this problem could be for Civ4 to include support for SMP, multiple CPUs. This support would be especially reasonable now that both Intel and AMD have launched their dual-core CPUs for the desktop market. Is there any word of whether Civ4 will have support for SMP or not?

C-IV is being completely re-written. The old code was very inefficient, and simply by improving the way the program is written should provide a significant speed-boost.

I would imagine that game testing is being done with large maps / world sizes, and hopefully the re-write means that instead of having to "put up" with the constraints of the old code base, a lot of these issues will be fixed.
