Will nukes destroy cities even when the "no city razing" option is enabled?

The manual says that nuclear missiles have the power to completely wipe a city of the map! However, what if the player doesn't want cities to be destroyed and has the "no city razing" option (I am assuming it is still there just like in Civ 4) enabled? Will nukes still destroy cities completely?

I hope not, because players who enabled the "no city razing" option are doing so for a reason. They want the cities to stay where they are.

Guess they should think about that before deciding to launch the ultimate weapon of destruction upon another city?

Really? I remember the manual saying a city can't be destroyed no matter how many times you nuke it. It just kills units/tile improvements nearby and probably lowers pop and maybe destroys city buildings. I kind of doubt most players will ever see nukes in play unless they use them themselves, though. It's diplomatic suicide.

Nukes never destroy cities, the best they can do is reduce the population to one.

This is not a valid answer.

There is no point in having a "no city razing" option for players who want cities to stay where they are if the AI can simply nuke them of the map.

No, the manual says nuclear missiles can destroy cities completely.

Atomic bombs can't destroy cities but nuclear missles are capable of doing so (unless the city is an original capital).

Edit: Oh it looks like you beat me to it hardcore gamer.

That is what the manual says yes, but I was wandering (and hoping) that this is not the case when the "no city" razing option is enabled since it would defeat the point of enabling "no city razing" if cities could still be destroyed via nukes.

From the manual:

Nuclear Missiles
While the atomic bomb does a fair amount of damage, nuclear missiles are truly devastating.
All units caught in the blast radius are destroyed, and the damage done to cities is even
greater. Unlike atomic bombs, nuclear missiles are even capable of wiping cities off the map
completely (note that a player’s original capital may not be destroyed in this manner)
.
As their name implies, nuclear missiles are missile units, which means they may be stationed
on missile cruisers or nuclear submarines, but not aircraft carriers.

Chances are that when the "no raze city" option is enabled, no cities can be obliterated by a nuclear missile. The code is already there to save a certain type of city from utter destruction.

Destroying cities completely is cool, I always had a thing for Planet Busters in SMAC.

Is there any way to defend against a nuke? Skimming through the manual, I haven't seen anything similar to bomb shelters.

That is a rather optimistic view after the mess they did with OCC + No city razing in Civ IV :p

OCC = you can only have one city ( atleast was what they said ... in fact the only thing it did was blocking settling and doing auto-raze in capture ) and you can have up to 5 Nat wonders/city ( in BtS ... in vanilla/warlords it was unlimited )

No city razing - self explanatory

OCC/no city razing - you can keep captured cities and build 5 nat wonders/city :p

They fixed that somewhere in a BtS patch (3.17? Not sure ), along with the fact you could keep gifted cities and assign foreign cities to yourself via UN/AP.

What I meant is that I would not be surprised to see the no city razing only blocking the actual option in the pop-up when you capture the city, and forgetting to add the nuke effects ( suposing that the manual is right in there , I mean :/ ). It would not be the first time Firaxis did something like that ...

Atom bomb can't ever destroy a city
Nuclear Missile can, but not a capital

As for what about in "no razing mode", not sure, test it in the game and find out, One would assume that all methods of city destruction are disabled in no razing mode.

We find out for sure in just a few days. As a commitment to you my fine friends, I vow to nuke the holy crap at the first civ who looks at me in a way I don't like. And I wont' stop dropping nukes tilll either the world ends or they are wiped out. For PONY!!!!!!!!
