Will there be a Civpedia?

O.o ...

New idea - maybe there should be techs required to be researched to unlock parts of the 'civpedia'. That would be fun.

NO!! THAT WOULD BE TERRIBLE HORRIBLE BAD
Techs/ in game accomplishments should not be needed to unlock out of game information.
The only way that would be reasonable is if the civpedia was describing a randomized game element (eg the aliens have random stats each game, so they aren't in the civpedia until you see them)

Agreed. Having to unlock your in-game guide would be awful. Otherwise, you might not have a clue what you're doing, especially the first time through, until you've already gone too far. Not to mention how infuriating it would be to go into a new game and realize you have to re-unlock a guide that;s usually available from the main menu every time you play.

Yes, it might be interesting to not have any words displayed in a traditional game until you had researched writing.
No numbers would be displayed (anywhere in the game) until you researched math.
And you could only see what was around your current active unit/city until you had researched maps (or paper).

That Sounds interesting, but then you realize a player can surmount those with keeping track of stuff on their Own pencil and paper... means that you should not be able to play the game at all until you researched computers :)
