Will there ever be a time when there is peace and no more killing? will there ever be a time when superpowers stop making bombs and start spening the trillions of dollars on education and healthcare? will there ever be a time when the world is united under a common goal? or will the world just continue to blow themselves up and destroy everything that is good in human nature? should nuclear bombs be destroyed?

No, there will never be universal peace and a stop to killing. To believe otherwise is to be severely deluded.

No to each and every of your questions. :nuke:

Two and a half million years of evolutionary struggle for survival mark mankind stronger than 20 years of hippie ideology.

To quote one of my favourite movies:

    - Peace is the transitory time between two wars.

    - What will you do when the war is over?
    - Prepare for the next one.

Corporal Steiner in Sam Peckinpah's brilliant Cross of Iron.

There will be periods when there'll be peace, but I don't think superpowers will stop building weapons during these times.

im no hippy, they annoy me :p

but i just think nuclear bombs are absurd, using them would break U.N. laws anyway since you would be harming civilians, unless they were tactical nukes

Nukes are deterrents. No-one will lauch an assault on the US or Russia because they know they will be annihilated. Without nukes, World War III would have broken in the 60's or 70's.

All praise the Mushroom Cloud, bringer of peace! :nuke:

If scoland doesn't mind me asking a new question.......

Would you prefer for nukes never to have been bulit?

On topic: Panda summed it up for me with the Cross Of Iron quate, aslong as we have needs that others don't want to share than war is bound to happen

Nukes are a deterrent the likes of which we have never seen. So far, they've worked amazingly. Yes, we've had wars...but read the figures on WWII and they've all been minor skirmishes.

UN "laws" say civilians shouldn't be harmed on purpose. Also, I think the possibility of turning his coutry into a wasteland scares most leaders a bit more than the UN....;)

in answer to revolutionarys question, its a difficult one, but i would probably say no. the reason being, if there were no nukes, no hiroshim/nagasaki and no cold war... BUT thern japan and usa could still be fighting it out to this day :p

Or more likely the US would've invaded Japan and the cold war would've been somewhat warmer.

lol, maybe. i think the U.S. would have maybe taken bakc most of the pacific island and maybe manchuria and korea. but i dont think they would have made it to a full scale invasion, it would be to difficult. probably end in a peace settlement, but that woulod be bad, it would mean the emperor still in power and no sony or nintendo for me *sobs*

I think invading Japan was exactly the plan the Americans had in mind... But let's get back to the original topic - Physical powers always exists, and as such there will always be people who would wanna use it for their goals and would be either stopped or intimidated. So no, there will never be any utopian complete peace.

Nukes should be destroyed. Big wars between large nations are something of the past IMO. It's now guerillas and terrorist we have to fight, and nukes are not very suited for that purpose.

As far as nukes go -- once the genie's out of the bottle, forget about it. That's why media companies have to figure out a why to profit in the age of "free" downloads, and why bans on controlled substances never actually keep the stuff out of people's hands. Technology perpetuates itself.

The best we can hope for is to keep the number of nukes built to a minimum. They are useful as a deterrent.

Earth will never know total peace, but hopefully we will avoid nuclear war.

The only people that would abolish nuclear weapons are the people who'd be the last to use them.

If the U.S., Britain, France, and Israel disarmed, then Russia, China, Pakistan, and India would keep them, if not construct more, to try and develop their influence over smaller countries.

    Don't count on it.
