Win 11 no sound

Hi guys got new comp as I’m hoping to play civ7.
I7 chip, 4080 video card.
Very pleased with computer but I can no longer hear any game sounds for civ 3.
Internet is fine, other civ games fine just civ 3.

It’s not diplo bug, the right sound source is installed. A tech looked at it and was baffled.

Anyone got any ideals?

Have you got the dx9 redistributable? It's no longer included by default on newer pcs

I believe steam prompted me to select a audio driver upon launching first time.

Civ4 works fine

Anyone any other ideas?

I just installed the GOG version on Windows 11, and I have the same issue - no sound at all. I wasn't prompted for selecting a driver with the GOG version.

I have the GOG version on Windows 11 and it worked without any trouble. My computer just uses the standard onboard Realtek audio. I don't even know how you would not get sound, assuming sound works for every other game.

Actually, I've discovered that I lose sound. It works for some time, and then I suddenly notice there's no sound at all. Exiting the game completely and restarting it doesn't always fix it.

The strangest thing happened. I have one of those "tiny computers", the little 6 inch by 5 inch boxes that's all-in-one. It has the AMD Ryzen chipset. I updated the AMD video drivers, and lo and behold the sound doesn't cut out anymore in the diplomacy screen! Device Manager shows sound as three entries, 2 are AMD and 1 is Realtek, and the sound icon in the system tray shows Realtek when you hover over it. But somehow, an update to the AMD video drivers must also have included AMD sound drivers, and those must be in use instead of Realtek, and Civ 3 is all happy.
