Hello all.

I recently purchased a new HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 7. I installed Civ IV and later BTS, upon which I discovered I had made an error in the installation as the program did not work properly. I uninstalled BTS without any problems, however installing Vanilla was not as painless. During uninstallation, multiple error messages appeared. The uninstall wizard crashed. I've attempted to start the uninstall process again, but I received an error message:

Error Code: -5004 : 0x80041f42
Error Information:
*C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\12\00\Intel32\iKernel.dll
>inc\CoCreate.cpp (44)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1390)
PAPP:Sid Meier's Civilization 4
PVENDOR:Firaxis Games (##IDS_PRODUCT_URL##)
PGUID:CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8
$11.0.0.28844
@Windows XP (7600) BT_OTHER 15092.30621

I have removed all files related to the program manually. I have deleted my temporary files, and I have cleaned up my registry. I always get the message when I attempt to uninstall, and I cannot run the installer from CD autorun.

Any help is appreciated

It sounds like the installshield information folder has been left behind, that will stop you installing again. I've included the folders for BTS and Warlords in case you need to get rid of those as well. The path may not be exactly right - it may be something like Program Files (x86), I'm not sure of the exact location in W7, but hopefully it will be enough to let you find it if you search.

Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).

When installing with W7 it's best not to use the autorun on the CD, but to look at the files on the CD, right click on the setup file .exe and choose run as administrator.
