Windows 98 SE

Hello there!

Has anybody succeeded in running Civ IV under Windows 98 SE? I have the latest Direct X and the system requirements, except for the operating system. I know it is only supposed to run in Win 2000 or XP, but if there is a case of the game running under Win 98 I would risk buying a copy...

With what this game is doing to Win2000/WinXP machines I wouldn't even try it on a Win 98 SE machine. More than likely you'll end up with a BSOD as soon as the disk goes in. This is just my opinion of course. Do they even make up to date video card drivers for windows 98 anymore?

just curious, but what are the specs on that comp? also, why on earth would you still run win 9x? lol i mean, i just built my father a p4 2.66 and put win 98 se on it, but he still uses paint to do photo work... anything more would hurt him
i also find his comp runs like crap, its limited by the OS not by the hardware me thinks

Pounder has successfully run the game under Windows 98, there should be a thread in the general discussions forum about it but it's probably quite a long way down the list by now. He only had 256MB memory as well.

It runs reasonably well. Meaning not perfect; I only have 12-13 fps,occasionally it crashes and loading saved game takes a minute. But in comparison with the problems suffered by many others it's not that bad.
