I'm helping a friend out, I have upgraded her PC from ME
to a full version of XP (no reformat, just replaced
windows version) I tried installing Norton on her PC and
the Norton icon is briefly there on the task bar and in
start-programs after the installation and then the icon
dissappears, and there is no executable in the Norton
folder, she has administer rights on her PC, what could be
causing this?
Thanks

ps... this "dissappearing icon/exe" delema also happened with another program I tried to install.

It is, it's a brand new version of Norton 2003, but it's not just norton, it's other apps (icons/executables) that have this problem too, I"m just using Norton as one of the examples

This probably doesn't help you if you've made up your mind about upgrading, but I'd personally never want to upgrade an OS, especially not when they are two different OS's (DOS and NT). I suggest backing up the files and reformat.:(

Yeah. . . .I'd reformat the puppy if it was me. I overlayed XPPro onto 98se. . . wasn't pretty.

Not sure how to fix the problems but it is always bett4er to go with a fresh load. Just backup the important files and then load XP anew and don't forget to do a quick format of the hard drive during the OS load.
