Civ 3 Conquests is still the best game of the series! I recently set up one computer on Windows XP 64 bit. The game runs great as it's a fully compatible platform and you can utilize all your memory. Running 8 Gigs Ram on a system with AMD Phenom II. It's about as good as it gets. XP 64 bit is available on line for free. Just search for it.

I wish I had a place to have an XP system for really old games. C3C runs great on Win10 for me, so I am ok. CAII works as well. Old games like Stars! do not run at all, unless you make a Win3.1.1 for it. Games like Warlords 3 and Age of Wonders (original one) will run, but alt tab out and the screen goes blotchy. 16 bit games that are not Dos are a problem in Win10.

I've given up trying to get CAII to work with Win10 ... nothing has seemed to work.

I know what you mean. I spent a long time without it working in Win10. I finally tried version 2.0.6147.37169 and it has been working.

How do I find that? Mine says it's version 2.0.6147 (without the .37169), but it just won't work ever since I started using Win10.

I suspect your version is the same. I got that number from the properties in Windows. I wish I knew why it is working for me and not for you. I suspect it is an issue with having the current .net framework. IIRC it was stated that CAII works on 2.0. I have 1.0, 2.0 and many others up to the current 4.6 or whatever it is now.

The oldest version I have is 2.0.50727. Is that edifying?

It will work on windows 10. Other than that, it'll show you trade info and happiness info just like civ assist does.

Trying to install, but the installer doesn't seem to want to work.

I think the old CivAssist needs .NET version 1.1. If that is not installed on WeirdoJoker's PC, but is installed on vmxa's, that would be an explanation?

I'm still using Win7, but I think I remember I had some trouble getting .Net 1.1 installed.

Now the strange thing is: I have three machines, one desktop and two laptops. On all three I installed Win7 via the same DVD (iso image) and I used the same .Net 1.1 installer (which I had downloaded together with CivAssist back in 2007 and kept since). On two machines CivAssist works like a charm, just like it used to on XP, but on the third machine it doesn't notice, when Civ3 starts (no icon in the top left corner), doesn't find the Autosaves (always have to load the current autosave manually) and it doesn't seem to find the tile graphics so the "World Map" view remains more or less blank.

I don't have v1.1 ... my oldest version is v2.0.50727, and my newest is v4.0.

Or you can just get Civ3complete on GOG for 5.99 or less if it goes on sale and be done with it. Optimization for Win10 built in. Just look at the cost like a tech fee.

I am still on Win 7 64 bit and I have to do some tweaking to get it to work, but it works just as good as it did on XP.

Whenever I cant get an old game to run via disc I just it buy on GOG.
