Surprise surprise. . . .

Attached is a screenie of my before and after. I've got almost 50% of the hdd available, but it refuses to defrag any of the files. Doesn't appear to be immovable files, and I can't imagine there being this may immovable. In the past, I've defragged, and it's gone just fine. I even blew away about 10 gigs of stuff (easily replaced stuff) and it still won't defrag.

Any suggestions?

Oh, and I've shut about everything down, except for AVG Virus scanner and ZoneAlarm. I could take these offline and turn off the cable modem. . . there's not much else running.

I'm not sure, but it rings a bell that defrag and antivirus programs don't do well together. Maybe that was in another situation though. I also think that any time that you use the computer it restarts the defragging, but maybe that was old versions of windows.

I turned off the indexing service a long time ago. It kept thrashing my hard drive. . .don't know if I had a buggy version of it or what. But that hasn't been used in a while.

I'll try shutting off the AV. . .

Why do you use FAT32 and not NTFS? Its better, as simple as that!

edit: dont know why it wont defrag. sorry

I use FAT32 because that was what was on the system before I upgraded to XPPro. Had a bunch of stuff on there that I didn't want to burn off and didn't want to lose any of it. So pure laziness. I've thought about converting it over many times, but I've had enought problems with this machine that I don't want to take any more chances with it than I need to.
