Hi all!

Last game I was on an island with monty and stalin. I took out monty with an immortal-rush. After that I rushed the AP and managed to build it. I was able to vote myself into the AP since my I kept my religion as obscure as possible - thanks, themeinteam! :goodjob:

Anyway, aftergetting voted as resident, no resolutions came up, ever. I tried being in free religion and organised religion but nothing helps. How do I get a diplomatic voting round to declare me diplomatic victor?

Thanks in advance!

Every Civ needs to be a voting member, so you will have to send missionaries to every one. You can't vote yourself a Diplomatic Victory any more - you have to be nice to the other Civs and get them to vote for you.

What? Now I have to be nice to other Civs?

What is this world coming to. :p

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to suspect something likt this. I guess I will time my spreading of the Ap religion carefully and then sneak in a diplomatic victory vote. I never did it before so I guess it will not work the way I plan to do it. :D

Then again, the game I am in now is not posing much of a challenge so I guess I will win anyway. Thanks!

@ Shurdus

You don't have to be nice to the other civs. Just vassalize one of them-or create a colony/vassal. As long as they are not the other candidate in the AP election, you can win a diplomatic victory with them voting for you-which they will probably do if you have them as a vassal.

1. Each civ that exists must have at least one city in the religion to get the resolution.

2. You can not have 75% of the votes or it won't show.

3. You + at least one other civ getting 75% or more of the votes will win the resolution. Whether this is easier via war or just favorite civic/religion abuse depends on the map and difficulty.

It's usually really easy to get 1-3 AIs to friendly without war, making the AP the easiest VC to clear by far, even without war.

As has been said already, all the AI's need to have at least one city with the AP religion in it for you to get a chance to try for the AP win.

If a civ is running Theocracy then you can't spread religion via missionaries in their cities.

You mentioned stalin and monty as being on your landmass in that last game, not sure about stalin, but Monty warmongering nut case that he is - his favorite civic is Theocracy :)

You can of course capture an isolated city of theirs, spread your religion to it when it's under your control using a missionary, then just pull all your troops out and let them retake it. I wouldn't put it past monty just to torch the place though ;)

After an all out immortal rush Monty is dead. Stalin is te only one in the known world left and he is plotting against me. unfortunately fir him I have a tach lead and am close to rifling while he is close to having maceman... but he does not have those yet.

I went out of my way to build the AP, having no clue what to do with it really. I saw lots of messages of great generals being born elsewhere and Stalin on my continent is not that advanced, so I figured I must be advanced being a financial/organised civ (Darius) and all...

I won the race for liberalism and am planning to vassalise Stalin sometime in the near future. Then I plan to sneak in an AP victory. I plan on spreading christianity to all civs at once, then they will not have time to spread it too far and mess up my voting power. After that, I just pray it will be good enough to get me the win. I never did this before and I do not really like this way of winning. I just build the AP to see what it could do for me since I never build it myself before.

Anyway, given that I am pretty advanced anyway and that I have a few nice cities, I am sure that I will win a space race or diplomatic victory anyway. I am sure I can still go for conquest as well but I am not a huge fan or oversea-warfare, since it is just too much work for a victory that is already in the bag anyway.

@TMIT: thanls for that explanation, that is really helpful and precicely what I was looking for. Free karma for you and you offspring! :goodjob:

For an example of how the AP can go pretty easy:

I have post 10 in spoilers. I was playing on immortal but made it easier by turning barbs off (In the next one I didn't but I won UN rather than AP). This should give a very good idea of how it works and how it can actually be quite easy to win using religion.

Ha, that was a class game, TMIT! :D

I suppose I will try something similar in my game. I have no clue how to go about doing just that, other than what you have shown me. I guess I will prioritise optics now and spread the religion afterwards.

Thanks man!

Ok, another question then.

Suppose I vassalize Stalin - or in general terms, you have number of vassals of 1 or greater. OF course, since they will vote of rme, I want this number of vassals to have a lot of cities with the AP religion. Does this count against the 75% of votes?

In other words, if I do not have 75% of the votes myself, but me and my numer of vassals combined have more than 75% of the votes, and the rest of the AI ivs each have at least one city with the AP religion, will the resolution show up then?

I think diplo victory is kind of a cheap and easy way to win.

That is one way to look at it, and an entirely valid, honorable point of view.

It is however completely besides the point and another topic entirely, well beyond the scope of this thread. ;)

Yes the diplomatic victory will show up. Just be careful that your vassal is not the other candidate for AP Diplo victory (2nd most votes) or your vassal won't vote for you.

Ok, thnx.

One more question then... Suppose I capture an enemy city. that enemy is in theocracy, so I cannot spread my religion. Now suppose I capture said city. Would I be able to spread my religion there straight away, or do I have to hold the city as long as the anarchy lasts and then spread my religion?

@ Shurdus

You can immediately try to spread religion when you have captured a city-assuming you have a missionary immediately available.

move 1-2 missionaries to each civ and when it comes resolution time, spread it all. if your lucky you can pull 30-40% of the weight in votes and still "vote yourself to victory" but usually, the AI will spread it.

Just thought of a good way to be cheap about this:

Say they're in theocracy, and you can't get your religion there. DoW on them, capture one city, spread your religion to them. Then let them capture it back. Now they have one city of your religion!

or use a spy to get them out of that civic.

edit: if you follow up by changing to theoc yourself, then spy them back into it once its spread, they shouldn't spread the religion. thus, they will be a minor player in the AP. Now, repeat this with every civ and you might get a majority to yourself.

This was precisely what I was suggsting, and I am sure this has been done a lot before. ;)

Come to think of it, when timed right this may pretty much be an almost free win. Then again, if you find yourself in this position, the game was pretty much yours anyway.

PS: Just won my second emperor game. Hurray for me! :D:D:D

Unless you play a mod, his favorite civic is Police State.
