[WIP] Indonesia Split (Community Project)

We can do that, but choosing those songs for our Mataram civ would be the equivalent of you choosing the orchestra version of My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean for a Hungarian Civ. You feel me? Dont mean to disrespect tho

Eh, this community has a long standing tradition of using stupid songs as civilization themes because, honestly, beggars can't be choosers. You'll kill yourself trying to find orchestral arrangements of just the perfect song for your civilization.

I mean, Waltzing Matilda ain't too far from My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean thematically, and it didn't stop TPangolin of using it in Australia... twice.

Well then I refuse to go with the communiity way of thinking :)
eh but a little compromise wouldnt hurt anyone
How about we switch around Udan Mas to be the theme for Mataram, since it was still used nowadays in the Keraton and many other places, and use these instead for the Majapahit?

Just messing around. Ghost summoning song. No biggie right?

As a guy who made Newhart Quebec's theme, I don't really have a problem with using the orchestra. But I like the idea of giving Udan Mas to Mataram. I'll just use the orchestra's Jali Jali for Majahpit's peace and kul's suggestion for war.

Regarding Medang:
I've made a decision to dumb down the stats, but it should still be interesting to play.

UA: Monumental Age - Religious buildings and wonders generate :c5greatperson: Great Engineer points in the Capital.

UU: Rakryan Kanuruhan (Great Engineer) - Can build Holy Sites, when Stationed in a city, earn 2 :c5production: Production and 1 :c5faith: Faith per 2 :c5citizen: Citizens.

UI: Candi - Unlocked at Construction. Can only be built on Flatlands or Fresh Water. Has the same yields as a Farm (That increase at the same rate) and 1 Production. Also generates Faith per era of existence.

Still synergizes quite well IMO, but puts more importance on the Unit and Improvement.

Also for the Candi graphics, since the almighty Wikipedia says that Borobudur is a candi, I'll be using it's graphics from the wonder tile pack.

Signing off on that civ I'll leave a little teaser for the music, Two Steps from Hell.

Kediri

UA: Spice Routes - The First 3 coastal cities spawn resources unique to Kediri. Trade route range increased in the capital per each trade route slot.

UU: Rakawi (Great Writer) - Creates Great Works of Writing that yeield 2 Gold

UB: Pentaran (Temple) - +2 Gold per religion.

The Building is tentative, but I'd like to keep the effects in some way. Obviously this is Gold Gold and more Gold. But I think it's nice focus.

Mataram:

UA: Kabupaten - Resistance time reduced by 50%. +2 Happiness upon conquering a city.

UU: Kavaleri (Lancer) - No defense penalty or city attack penalty. Starts with 15 XP

UB: Lumbung Padi (Barrack) - Units trained in this city heal faster in enemy territory

I like the lump sum of happiness better. It seems more active to me, which is perfect for a military civ.

Majapahit: Palapa Oath - Units gain a combat bonus for each city state you can demand tribute from or are at war with.

UU: Kris Swordsman - Same

UB: Wayang (Amphitheater) - 5% Culture in this city, 10% if the Great Work slot is filled.

Not as synergistic as the others but still is better than Firaxis's version.

I'm happy to do the lua for this split since I was considering making one myself. As such, feel free to make this designs more complicated as I should be able to do them. I'd like to offer some changes to the Medang since I think it's a bit too bland with those changes:

UA: Monumental Age: Tiles that yield at least +2 :c5faith: Faith provide +1 :c5production: Production while building wonders. Holy Sites may be built by Great Engineers and provide +2 :c5food: Food.

UI: Candi: Comes at Construction and can be built on flatland or freshwater land, but not adjacent to each other. Provides +1 :c5faith: Faith and +1 :c5culture: Culture. Receives an extra +1 to :c5faith: Faith, :c5culture: Culture, and :c5food: Food if adjacent to a Holy Site.

UU: Vihara: Replaces Temple. Whenever a :c5citizen: Citizen is born, gain :c5greatperson: Great Engineer points based on how much :c5faith: Faith this city is generating. Provides an Engineer specialist slot if this city is generating at least 10 :c5faith: Faith from tiles.

It's one of the more complicated designs I've made but seen sounds pretty interesting, to me at least. I'm not a fan of great people replacements since they tend to do the same things (make certain improvements, provide bonuses while garrisoned, etc). They really need to do something unique to stand out to me, like the Zapotec Battle Priest for example. As such, I added a UB that could fit with this tile yields and production theme. It might still need to be adjusted a bit but the general ideas are there.

There's no way to make tiles generate 2 faith except for Holy Sites right? Well, there's Natural Wonders, but counting on them is iffy.

I think I like it, it's subtle but really good if managed correctly.

I like those changes, but I've already requested the unit art so I'd like to keep the GP replacement.

Still using the Rakyan Kanuruhan? I thought we are considering Silpin, the historical workforce of artisans and clerics that builds and decorates Candi. Again, Rakyan Kanuruhan arent related. Their role are very different. Heres the summary for the hierarchy in Majapahit which I think still had similar strata regarding official roles. Just translate the page into english. It blended nicely.

Also, for the Mataram's UU, I managed to find at least a less generic name for the Lancer replacement, Bregada Turonggo which means Cavalry Force. I snatch the name and description from here. Which is the website for Indonesian cavalry forces division who got their insignia bestowed by the Keraton. Though this site's content doesnt translate well into english. I can dig up reference pic for the costumes and such, just ask.

No comment for the Jali Jali tho. Can I still convince you to use at least an Javanese song or at least a generic sounding gamelan instead? Jali Jali was a folk song of the Betawi, the ethnic group of Jakarta, over 750 KM from Eastern Java, where Majapahit were located. Im sorry for sounding a bit picky here, but I still think we can work it out with an appropriate song, or at least, didnt use a wrong one instead. Can I still put some sugestions here?

Also, for Kadiri UB, you dont have to relegate Candi Penataran into a generic temple replacement (or at least, thats what me and my friend-that-comes-from-Kediri thought about the name Pentaran) I would recomended to make a Market replacement since that is the civ's focus. She also told me about how the current city of Kediri also starts ots beginning from a market settlement in Brantas River, that went tthrough the modern day Kediri. Also, to differentiate the ancient kingdom from the modern town, she also recomended to use kingdom's actual name, Kadiri or Panjalu. So if you want a civ thats all about flat amount of gold, then:

UB: Pasar Gedhe
("Mega Marketplace")
Market Replacement for Kadiri. +2 Gold if the City had Religion. Every Trade Routes originating from this City gives you +4 Gold, and +2 Gold for the recipient.

Yeah, but thats just something that I made on the spot with my friend lol. Still, after seeing the english wikipedia page for Candi Penataran, where it was worded so that "Penataran" can be read as "Candi Complex", I can get what you are trying to make as an Unique Building. Looks like Im a bit too early to judge here, and to that, I am sorry.
Penataran is good, and after all, would be a waste if we are not including the historical formations of candis into the Kadiri Civ.

If anything, I would love for a bit Science focus on the civ, here's my reasoning in the spoiler
Spoiler :

Jayabaya is one of the famous king of Kadiri are known for his prophecy regarding Indonesia's future, in which he had foresaw the colonization of the Dutch, the Japanese occupation, airplanes that goes through the sky and all. Even if further research towards this matters eventually revealed that these prophecies actually came up from a much later date at 17th century, written by a duke from Mataram, it was still staggering since it had predicted many things at Indonesian history. Yet, even with this new reveal, public conciousness still associate the Prophecy with Kadiri Kingdom

Oh yeah, If you want the full album of those afromentioned orchestra above, you can snatch it here or listen to it here. There's a single Eastern Java songs in the album, but it came from modern times, and doesn't really had anything to do with Majapahit. I still think they atleast deserve a traditional gamelan for their peace theme, since they are reportedly the one that created them and all.

Oh, I know that you are not really asking for them, but I stumbled upon some orchestral version of the theme for Jaranan, a traditional performance art from Kediri, which or course, could work for Kadiri, unless you already had something in mind.

And some remixed version for the War theme? Its not really orchestral or anything, since that starting to feel restricting

Looks nice! Definitely passable. If the color of the upper body clothing could be all red then it could be perfect, but that could definitely do the part.

Eh, I dont know, Rakawi are clearly writers literally and we have Great Writers thats just the perfect vessel for them, I wouldnt change them into something else. Perhaps the generation of Great Writer could be added to its other uniques? Like for example..
Spoiler :

Kadiri
Leader: Jayabaya
Capital: Daha

UA: Panjalu Jayati (well, Spice Routes could work too hehe)
First Three Coastal Cities spawn luxury uniques to Kadiri. Trade Routes range increase per number of Trade Routes Available.

UU: Rakawi
Replacement for Great Writer. Great Work of Writing created by them yields additional +3 Gold, while Political Treatise also grants Science beside Culture.

UB: Penataran
Replacement for Temple. +2 Gold and 2 Great Writer point for each Religion in the City. Had a Great Work of Writing slot.

Spoiler :

And for Majapahit (Since you said it could be more synergistic)
Majapahit
Leader: Gajah Mada
Capital: Trowulan

UA: Sumpah Palapa or Palapan Oath, or Hasta Mandala
Units gain a combat bonus for each City State you can demand tribute from or are at War with. Receive a lump of Culture when capturing enemy Capital.

UU: Kris Swordsman

Same, but now a Longswordsman, and removes the two unfortunate promotion, the Enemy Blade and Evil Spirits.

UB: Wayang
Replacement for Amphiteater. +5% Culture in this city, +10% if the Great Work slot is filled. Bonus also spreads to Unit Production during War.

Sorry to intrude, but can we somehow put Maluku in this split? I feel that the current Indonesia UA fit perfectly to them
(also, yay me for my first post ever here)
