With Russia you can be guaranteed Iron every game if you don't mind trading away a Great Work

I was playing as Russia and placed down a Lavra as early as possible, as typically you do. This meant I was getting GWAM points very early and thus getting to those great people too.

When I discovered Bronze Working I had no Iron nearby, as happens in at least 66% of games. However I offered a Great Work of Writing to Alexander for his Iron, he gave me his Iron plus 8 GPT. So if you don't mind trading away a Great Work early on, you can very easily get Iron every game.

The only problem with this is that if you come to blows with him, you'll have no iron and the swords/knights won't be able to heal. So you'll be dependent on them if you go this path; it's best to pick someone that isn't in your way and won't backstab you.

Likewise, if you're the one trading a strategic resource to someone, you also really have them on the ropes.
