Update 1: January 1, 1455 – December 31, 1457
Castile Sells Trieste and Cotrone! The Kingdom of Castile and the Byzantine Empire reached a settlement in which Castile would give the Byzantines control of 2/3 of their Italian holdings in return for technological aid. But there have been very negative consequences as a result. The loss of these Italian lands has cut Castile’s treasury in half, and dissent has risen to unforeseen levels as Italian refugees pour into Genoa, Pisa, and German Italy. Some Castilian nobles have called for a new royal dynasty to replace the current monarchy and they have gained the support of a few bishops who consider this traitorous to all of Catholicism. Luckily Castile’s war with France has kept dissent down to a minimum, but if the war turns sour it will not be pretty for Castile’s king. Meanwhile Byzantine’s economy has grown and the unruly mobs of Catholic Italians have been put down for now.
(Byzantines: +3% dissent from unruly Italians; Castile: +15% Dissent from angry nobles, priests, merchants, etc).
Breton War! France has declared war against the small Kingdom of Brittany and has sent forces in an attempt to conquer it. Brittany has signed defensive alliances with both Germany and Castile and the war has broadened far beyond the initial sights of the French monarch. The first battles were fought in the Normandy country where the Bretons put up a valiant fight but their newly constructed castles were overwhelmed by French forces. A final siege at Cherbourg sealed Normandy’s fate as the Breton army retreated by sea. Brittany’s remaining forces have retreated to Brittany proper and are prepared to defend to the last for king and country.
(France: -4 Feudal Banners; Brittany: -3 Feudal Banners)
Germany Close to Paris! Germany forces crushed many of France’s well fortified castles thanks to their newly adapted Improved Siegecraft with more powerful siege weapons and tactics. As a result France was forced to rush most of its remaining army to fight the advancing German forces. After the French victory at the Battle of Montmirail German forces turned south and are now close to conquering Orleans. Two of France’s most important cities lie near German hands.
(France: -5 Feudal Banners; Germany: -3 Feudal Banners, -1 Mercenary Company)
Abbasids Launch Failed Expedition! The Abbasids sent an incredibly large amount of forces into the Arabian desert, only for them to come back reporting a barren wasteland unfit for conquest. Dehydration and heatstroke paid a heavy toll on the expedition and several thousand never made it back home alive. The failed expedition has raised dissent from members of nobility whose funds and troops went to waste.
(Abbasids: +2% Dissent, -2 Feudal Banners)
Fatimid Launch Expensive Reforms! The Fatimid Sultanate has spent the last 3 years attempting to improve their state with sweeping reforms. Centralized sharia courts, improved infrastructure, shipping registrations, and even a well organized postal service all could have been great and monumental in shaping the sultanate productivity, but the projects have been hit hard by staunch resistance from local lords and emirs. The Sultanate is still a Feudal Monarchy and central rule of any kind is hard to come by. Perhaps it is time for the Fatimids to seek to gain and implement the idea of Divine Right to craft the Absolute Monarchy the Sultan seems to desire (and it comes with a productivity bonus!)
Ooc:
some people were confused about PC. PC is a fraction with the numerator meaning how much you can spend and the denominator representing the base economy on which different modifiers are attached. Some thought the denominator was a treasury or the spending amount, its not. Any PC not spent is lost.
-So Churchill I gave you a mercenary company instead of professional regiment
I also should have mentioned, sharing techs HALVES the price of the tech, it doesn’t give it to the other state outright. The only exception is if the tech was going to cost 1 PC anyways (then you get it outright)
-So Adrogans, you didn’t get seamanship and I gave you 15 early ships instead of medieval ships.
Also during war should you lose a city, it will not longer add towards your income. However the occupier can not utilize its income until after the war is resolved.
Three people didn’t send orders. They have been marked with *** next to their name. If they don’t sent orders again you can consider them NPC.
