Wonder building 4.2

OK, we now have the ability to claim another wonder and we have 641 gold in the treasury.

I estmate that Olympia needs about 225 more shields to complete JS Bach's. However, there are four wonders available and two are of the cheaper variety.

We have four sleeping caravans at the ready - that's 200 shileds unless we use any for actual trading. We also have a caravan aboard a trireme that is very near the home island.

JS Bach and Magellan's we can build with the 4 nearby caravans and either buy the last 25 or let those finish on its own.

Sun Tzu's and King Richard's will only need about 125 more shields - which could mean only using 2 caravans and buying.

We have the opportunity to rush buy lots of caravans in the home island cities as well. With about 167 gold we can get 5 up and running. See my other thread on rush buying for details.

Keep in mind, that Leo's will be available soon.

Lots to think about. My suggestion is this: Use the four nearby caravans to build Magellan's or Bach's now and buy the last 25 or so shields. I like Magellan's here because of the map type and others have started it. Nobody has moved to Bach's yet, but it could be nice to have with our new government pending. Don't think that KRC or Sun Tzu's will be killer if we lost out on them.

Then, rush build caravans in at least 5 cities on the home island. Combined with the caravan in the trireme, that's 6 caravans or 300 shields we can have up almost right away. We can build Leo's with these.

I think that this is the way that we are presenting things. If there is enough disagreement, then the citizens have the right to PM me or make a poll or something to ask for other options.

So here's the deal I wish to present:

1. Build Magellan's now with caravans present and buying the last 25 shields.
2. Rush buy caravans in several cities on the home island and use the last caravan for building Leo's when Invention is discovered.
3. Continue to rush caravans whenever possible with extra cash from Republic. Use some to deliver but also some to complete more wonders.

That should do it. I welcome comments. I hope I'm doing the right thing by not having an official poll on this.

I totally agree. Magellans is good to have on this map and we should get Leo´s as soon as we can. We should also make sure to get Bach´s.

I'm not entirely certain I want Magellan's but am happy to go with the majority. I'd definitely prefer Bach's Cathedral to almost eliminate unhappiness problems. Leo's will be vital to us, and I want to be in a position to get Adam Smith as soon as possible to further exacerbate the problems of those useless other civs.:nya2: I like the rushbuying idea but this plan is contingent on our agreeing to rushbuy/build caravans in all the other cities. What is THDP building now?

I would certainly like to get Bach's first as well - it will help immensely and be a HUGE plus if we go to Democracy soon. However, there are several other civs building Magellan's, and I actually feel that nobody else has Theology. I think if we breeze through Magellan's, the others will switch to the cheaper Sun Tzu's and KRC and finish them. Anything else will have to be abandoned - though I have a feeling that there's some new techs out there where Adam Smith's or Newton's will be started soon.

So far, it seems that the rush-buying will be pretty acceptable. While we wait for Leo's to come online, I'd suggest that the cities repeat the caravan building. When we have Theory of Gravity or Economics, we can rush them again and build the wonder straight away. We'll see if we can get the cities to do this...

THDP is STILL building the bank!! My suggestion: switch to a harbor. If we do this (no penalty), the harbor will be finished the next turn. Then we can build some caravans for trade. This city will need a harbor anyway - even if we don't have Sanitation yet.

What the hell are we doing building a bank? Our cash surplus is something of a national pride and this is our research city. I seem to remember coming down hard when someone suggested building a marketplace there instead of a library many years ago. A harbour is the way to go if we've already got an aqueduct.

Another thing that was voted against in the last poll but has not been carried out? First Unknown City building two extra triremes and now this? Perhaps we need to make a careful check on all our cities...

While Magellans would be nice to have on this type of map, I think Bachs would help out much more when we go into a Republic. Especially since we do have several cities that are supporting multiple troops that are traveling around.

As for the wonders, Kev's plan seems sound, but I want to add my support to ensuring we get Bach's. I would rather have Bach's then Magellans if it came to a choice. Kev's plan *should* allow us to get both. Lets just not forget Bach's while we're saving up caravans for Leos.

I think that Pellaken put us into a republic in his last turn as he was complaining about the Oedo years not working properly. We will need some extra happiness support for the impending change to Democracy though, and we should rehome the crusaders around Viroconium before we move or else Unknown City will be crippled with about 18 unhappy people and a population of about 6.

Actually, we're still in Anarchy right now. We'll likely switch next turn (at least I hope).

I agree that we'll have to watch out for happiness if we go for Magellan's over Bach's. Have to "rehome" some units and put some others in cities.

One option could be to try to hit a WLTC Day right away. While some cities celebrate, it will assure that those with several units outside their city will have the time to get them somewhere without causing Anarchy again.
