The AI banding together to make you lose victory points at 15 seems extremely artificial, and pushes players towards other victory types (usually cultural or science).

I recommend that allies should not be allowed to vote for each other to lose diplomatic victory points. This makes sense as you are close friends and support each other diplomatically, and they already don't impede the other victory types. The formation of alliances also fosters a less aggressive playstyle, in line with the idea of diplomacy.
Finally, it also adds another layer of depth, where a civ may have to decide to end a otherwise beneficial alliance just in order to stop the other civ from achieving victory.

As always, thanks for the excellent updates and patches to the game, and I hope you would consider this idea.

Sure, as long as it comes with the caveat that the AI is much less likely to agree to renew an Alliance if it senses you're closing in on a Diplo victory.

But I don't think it will solve much. It will only make it even harder to achieve A Diplo victory since the AI will still vote against you, but on top of that you'll have less allies.

So although I think this is how it should work, we need Diplo Victories to be improved in some other manner.

I guess it can just be a friendship score modifier. So if you play in a diplomatic manner throughout the game, and don't accumulate grievances, your higher level ally friendship bonus would be able to offset the closing on diplomatic victory negative modifier, allowing you to continue renewing the alliance. So if you are able to even develop say a couple of alliances in an 6 civ game, it would drastically improve your chances.
These ai civs wouldn't need to support you in WC, just not oppose you much like real world alliances.

Allies backstab each other all the time. It's bad enough there is a rule in place that makes it impossible to declare war on an ally.

Sure, they backstab but not overtly. Maybe they'll trade or fund an enemy, but not straight up declare war. A declaration of friendship can be used when you want to maintain friendly relations but not restrain yourself.
