Tchaah, Col. Phoenix knew his stuff better on this one and you know it :p. His style (e.g. "RUBBISH!") does tend to encourage disagreement, but you appear to be falling back on legalistic quibbles rather than really accepting than he knew Giggs's position better than you did. Hey ho.

In another decade, the point on selections for a UK team would be quite interesting. Personally, I'd take Hartson up front over Heskey any day, but there's very few Scottish and Irish players you can currently make a case for.

My Celtic chip on the shoulder insists, however, that a UK team in, say, 1974 would have ended up being picked by an Englishman, and ended up with Mick Channon, Colin Todd and Emlyn Hughes playing instead of Dalglish, Bremner and Holton. This is probably (a) true, and (b) says more about the extent of my resentment of English football commentators/pundits/experts through the years than anything particularly relevant to the topic at hand...

And surely there must be a better keeper in the British Isles than David James ?

Thinking about it, there are several; Niemi, Cudicini, Friedel, Keller, Howard...

Whatever happened to the great English strain of goalkeepers ?

Well there's always Seaman :mischief:

I think Italy are going to win our group, with Norway coming in 2nd, and Scotland coming in 3rd...

Hey, the one position the US is stacked at. If your favorite EPL team is looking for a keeper, tell them to look in MLS, we sell them cheap :D
