In another decade, the point on selections for a UK team would be quite interesting. Personally, I'd take Hartson up front over Heskey any day, but there's very few Scottish and Irish players you can currently make a case for.
My Celtic chip on the shoulder insists, however, that a UK team in, say, 1974 would have ended up being picked by an Englishman, and ended up with Mick Channon, Colin Todd and Emlyn Hughes playing instead of Dalglish, Bremner and Holton. This is probably (a) true,and (b) says more about the extent of my resentment of English football commentators/pundits/experts through the years than anything particularly relevant to the topic at hand...
