Just a question, what are your guys thoughts on the world wonder dlc? Does it mesh well with VEM or does it through off balance so much that no one uses it?

Just curious if its worth getting or not

I have it, and while it's not some kind of necessary DLC purchase (The only real necessary purchase so far is Continents Plus, and if you have one friend with the DLC you can share it around - don't go telling Firaxis I said that though :p), it does make the early game more interesting. The Statue of Zeus is especially fun.

In regards to it meshing with VEM, yes, Thal has made changes to wonders to both make them fit in better and to make them more enjoyable. The Statue of Zeus, for example, gives Great General points, which is very unique.

The effects in VEM are...

Temple of Artemis

  • 10% :c5food: in all cities.
  • 20 :c5war: XP for archers built in this city.
Statue of Zeus

  • 1 free Great General.
  • 1 Great General point per turn.
  • +20% strength for all units vs cities.
Mausoleum of Halicarnassus

  • Low cost.
  • 2:c5gold: on Stone and Marble.
  • 100:c5gold: each time a Great Person is used.

I've considered buffing the mausoleum in a way other than cost, but haven't figured something out yet.

Yeah i ended up buying the wonder pack for my last game and was able to build the mausoleum last game but just had no desire to. Maybe to keep with the theme of gaining after the gp are used/die and are entombed there which is how i take it, we could have it gain culture for the city it is built in when the gp is used. This would help tall empires go for cultural wins as they usually have more specialist slots in use and therefore more gp. 100 gold is just way too underwhelming but a culture boost would make me want it. Plus its culture from the respect of entombing the gp in a kick ass mausoleum!

Also maybe culture on stone and marble.

I can't really alter the 100 gold from great person usage, but I agree it's underwhelming. In the next version I dropped a free Great Merchant onto the wonder. That gives us ~500:c5gold: and fits the great person theme better than on the Colossus. :)

That amount of gold early would at least give a good reason strategically for going for it, it was funny in my last game it seemed like even the AI was reluctant to get it, haha.

I don't know, but I feel it's too low. I've searched a few times for a variable controlling that but haven't found anything. I'll post a question about it in the main modding forum.

I believe 1g/production regardless of era. I only play standard speed so I don't know if there's a multiplier.

Ideally, I guess it'd be the same amount as would've been gained from the :c5gold:Wealth process during those turns? Otherwise, the best way to generate :c5gold: could be simply going for any old World Wonder you're bound to get beaten to.

It's by far the best way to generate wealth, but it's finite AND most of the time not practical because when you actually want to build wealth there aren't any wonders that can be built.
