To preface, I think the gameplay of Civ V is incredible, and I love playing it, but in 15 years of playing Civ, this is the most ridiculous AI move I have ever seen.
Some background, Playing on a huge arch map, max Civs, warlord difficulty, I've been working on a cultural victory, and was attacked by Siam. They took two of my best cities before I could rush some destroyers and infantry over to that Island. I have taken two, small cities of theirs back (not my original ones), have a significant edge in technology, but only have 3 infantry and 4 destoryers and they just gave me this peace offer:

100 gold
open borders
SEVEN CITIES (ranging in size from 3 to 9)
7 horses
7 coal
sugar
furs
spices
marble

I love this game, but it would have probably taken me a 100 turns to roll back their whole army to this extent. I just don't understand what would prompt this kind of capitulation, they aren't even at war with anyone else. What the heck!?!?

Something seems clearly broken. I hope it will be fixed soon in a patch.

But at least this deal is sabotaging your cultural victory. ;)

I've mostly been ignoring diplomacy in general because it seems so messed. Nobody will ever give fair trades either. You try to trade them for some of their surplus silver and they want like 3 resources and 20 gold per turn for it, and those are the friendly guys! :(

What level are you playing?

I am just playing my first game as Greece. I started it on warlord level just to get used the feel of the game etc. (i play emperor on civ IV). I must say i am enjoying this game but it is too easy in my opinion. WAY TOO EASY! I know i am playing below my difficulty but when i do that in CIV IV it still is not so easy.

Here' s what i found very easy.

- Taking cities has never been this easy. Maybe it will change as i move up levels.
- There is no distance penalty when placing cities. and this makes it a little too easy.
- The only restrictive factor is hapiness, this also became a factor for me in the late game and i am overcoming it by using gold to buy happiness buildings.
- I have an empire with about 15 cities + 3-4 puppets, i am gradually annexing each one of them. I have klilled all but the last of my opponents.
- As greece i obviously worked on the city states and 8 of them are my ALLIES! which means i get huge benefits from them, which may have made the game easier. i think all the food they gave me helped to sky rocket my population.
- the hapiness penalty for number of cities is linear and hence a non factor. approx 80% or more of the unhapiness comes from my population. so horizontal expansion is not too stifled. And i cant even begin to imagine what can be done as india.

Lets see how things shape up as i move up the difficulty levels. Right now its a fun game but not too challenging a bit "Simple" if you ask me.

No, those are the civs that don't like you. Civs that like you will always make 1 for 1 trades on resources.

As to the OP, the AI is far too willing to give up their cities in this game. No doubt about that.

I guess no civ has ever liked me. :(
