OK, I am seriously mad right now and need to vent. I just had a tremendously weird program flaw happen to me that has got to be the freakiest thing I have ever seen. In fact I doubt many people will believe me.

I was playing along with about 15 or so cities. In the lead on everything but military, completed every secret project thus far, and on thinker level. And the important part: playing iron man without quitting (thus saving) for over 20 turns.

Then, I end my turn and POOF!!!! All my cities disappear!!! All I have is 4 colony pods, 3 speeders, 5 infantry, and 2 formers.

First I thought, "Hey, big deal, it’s only on terrain map mode somehow, I will flip it off". Nope, they are really gone. I no longer have any of my secret projects, nothing but the terriforming I have done, and Mr. Yang is in the lead in all categories!!!!

I played the next two turns thinking, "They have to come back" nope.

So here I am venting. But, I guess I should make a legitimate thread out of this, so, What are some strange bugs that have happened to other people?

Did you perhaps accidentaly enter the the hot key, ctrl + something, for killing you own faction, with the restart civilization option (default selection) on?

I never knew that hot-key existed. I could swear that all I hit was "Enter" to end my turn though. But, you know your memory can fail you when you get mad.

Never the less, it all turned out ok. I had been at war with both Zak and Santiago. After I replayed my lost turns, I only got into war with Yang (go figure). So I guess it was for the best.

I have dug up a two year old post at Poly where something similar had happen, apparenly as a error from an AI probe action to liberated a captured faction leader. Somehow rather than the AI probe freeing a leader captured by the human player, it "Liberated' the human faction which was being probed, causing it to restart.

That makes complete sense!!! I had wiped out the believers and the University had been sending probes at me. And despite the fact the factions were the original seven, I am playing SMACX.

I feel much better knowing I am not the only person that has experienced this. Thanks Lefty!!!

I saw you were asking for others weird bugs, and here's one I experience often.(It's not really a bug, but a malfunction of some sort, but anyway..)

Sometimes, when I'm 'conversing' the other faction leaders, the game quits, and returns to windows. This 'bug' was the main reason I haven't played SMAC for a few years, but luckily it's just to save each turn to prevent this from happening..

EDIT: Well, not really. I just changed the resolution in the game to the same as I use in windows, 800x600, and then it worked OK again.

Here's another : the game doesn't start at all...

Or rather, after a few turns (well, let's be not so negative : the game ends suddenly after one turn only or may run for two hours without problem and then crashes !)

At first, I thought it had something to do with some specific actions, or events. But after browsing this site, maybe the reason is only some overheating.

Anyway, it only happens with SMAC (and CTP by the way), while I never had this kind of problem with Civ II or Civ III, which is the reason why I mostly play Civ II...

Well, the thing I said help, didn't help at all...
It still crashes, and I also found out that it's not possible to change the res in SMAC...
