This one might be a hard one to beat:

I managed to round up all the critters to build the Grand Menagerie. I am building it and only THREE TURNS away. Can you guess what happened?

I had one of those %$#@! jailbreaks where the animals escape, then instantly commit suicide. No more Gorilla and Tiger. No Grand Menagerie.

The next message I see is "You cannot continue building the Grand Menagerie."

What about you? Remember any really nasties that happened to you in your game besides losing Basium with 99.9% Combat Odds. :p

Anyone lose a game on the very last turn???

PS. Don't ask me if I used Auto Save in the above game.

I was playing as Tasunke and was pretty much owning the two remaining civs (Khazad and Amurites) when they ganged up on me. My monster tech lead allowed me to fend off an all-out joint attack (Amurite fire mages backed up by Khazad hammerfists).

While they regrouped, I started pillaging Khazad territory like crazy, which seemed to be the right choice at the time, but it was a terrible mistake.

When the second joint invasion hit, it was more than I could counter. Therefore, I saddled up my war chariots and horsemen and made a mad dash across the Khazad homeland to make a desperate counterstike at the Amurites. All of his cities were poorly defended as I had hoped and they all fell quite easily.

My first mistake was understandable, but my second was just plain ******ed: Rather than just take out the Amurite civ (and make those nasty mages disappear) I tried to re-establish myself in his territory with captured cities, giving my original cities to the Hyborem.

By the time I took the last Amurite city, the Khazad had liberated and gifted back to the Amurites the first city I had captured...wait a minute...he could have gifted one of his own cities to the Amurites anyway. Never mind, I probably didn't play that stupidly after all. That was actually a pretty good game! :)

I can't believe I didn't realize that until I was recounting the story here. I considered deleting this post but I don't mind if people realize how ******ed I am most of the time. It will help me resist the temptation to waste time trying to look smart. ;)

the best thing was when i beat orthus at 0.1% odds with a warrior

Summonig Hyborem and then realizing there isn't a single bad guy in the game.

I was going for a Kuriotate Cultural Victory and, for the last several turns, my final city to reach Legendary had a stack of Hippu and Ljosalfar units which not only out-numbered my own, but some of which were a Tier ahead of my own (Rangers vs Axemen and Archers). I think I had two or three wounded units in my city the turn the game ended. It was very, very close.

Of course, if you were Orthus, I would understand your post.
I'm Orthus, and I can tell you that it was my worst game ever. Usually, my games go quite poorly, and the "attack no matter what" banzai rushes just don't seem to get the job done. I can't imagine why. I susupect there is a bug that causes this.

Anyway, my losing on a 99.9% battle was so humiliating. The hill giants and spiders still razz me about that one. :(
