Would most factions eventually die out anyways?

There are 14 factions, and each has its own ideology. But for most factions their ideology is a goal. So after they achieve that goal, there is no point of that faction existing anymore, right?

This is what I mean:

Peacekeepers: Unite Humanity
--What did they plan to do after uniting humanity?

University: Discover Technologies & Free flow of Info
--What are they supposed to do after all the tech advances are discovered and all information is free and available?

Usurpers: Transcend & Destroy Caretakers
--What's their motive AFTER transcendence and destruction of caretakers?

Caretakers: Prevent Transcendence & Destroy Usurpers
--What would happen next?

And I could continue doing this for many of the other factions. But what were factions like these supposed to do after they achieved their goals?

The Peacekeepers would follow a democratic model of government to promote the well-being of all humanity. That isn't going to lead to the faction dying out.

For the University, the development of science was to increase the capabilities of man and the extent of human-consciousness. If they achieved their goal, humans would be gods and as gods, do whatever they can do to be in constant pleasure or avoidance of boredom.

As for the others you mentioned...they are from SMACx which was crap so I don't care.

I would pretty much agree with KittenOfChaos. They'd rule Planet in the spirit of their ideology.

As for those who wish for Transcendence: They'd probably just live as part of Planet for all eternity or something like that...

The only faction whose ideology would die out without opposition is the Caretakers. If no one is trying to achieve transcendence, why should the Caretakers exist at all? They, however, are the only "reactionary" faction. That is, they are the only faction whose goal is to simply stop something from happening, the only faction whose only purpose is to oppose something.

The Gaians can revel in their ecotopian paradise.
The Hive can trudge on into eternity as a communist police state.
The University can continue to expand knowledge until they become as gods.
The Morganites can amass wealth and luxury and achieve eternal pleasure.
The Spartans can conquer the universe with their extreme discipline.
The Believers can convert the world and live in a socially-rigid theocracy.
The Peacekeepers can unite humanity and establish an eternally prosperous democratic state.

etc.

What about the concept of "Eternal Vigilence?" Even after crushing all apparent foes, they could just as easily continue to guard the plannet untill the end of time, even if they're protecting it from nothing!

The problem with that is that the grandchildren or greatgrandchildren of the last of the Caretakers to face opposition wouldn't care any longer about maintaining the sanctity of Planet; they haven't experienced and the problem and they don't know it. The Caretakers might survive, but, without the oposing forces of the humans and the Usurpers, their ideologies would change radically since the defense of Planet is no longer necessary.
