Would you cross the world to steal a Mausoleum?

OK, so I'm playing the Inca and having a great game. I stole 2 extra capitals and then settled down to peaceful expansion, trading, religion, and wonderspamming. I expanded up to 11 cities to complete an early library quest and then my culture grabbed me a couple more from neighbors who settled too close.

It's early ADs and I've scored 3/4 of the wonders. Unfortunately, I missed the Mausoleum of Mausollos. My land had no calendar resources, so I didn't prioritize it and got beat to it. Turns out, it went to Alexander on the other side of the planet.

I'm really regretting this now. Why? I've got an inside track on Taj Mahal. I got the guns n butter quest. I got the coloseum quest and I built the Statue of Zeus. That's going to be 3 free golden ages. I can definitely see myself burning 6GPs for 3 more. Heck, just to make a point, I believe I COULD generate 10GPs for 4 more. So that's at least 6 golden ages coming my way.

I've got about 3/4 of the musketeers built and the Taj 3/4 built. Nobody else has nationalism yet, so I'm not under pressure to finish. Alexander build the Mausoleum in a coastal city, and is defending with longbows, maces, cats, probaby knights. He has 6-7 cities total--around the middle of the world power graph. But he's on the far side of a continent completely around the world. Diplomatically, the world is 50/50 hinduism buddhism on two separate continents. The two separate continents are mostly love-fests, so I'll take a hit with everybody over there if I declare. I got astronomy off of liberalism, so I could build several galleons and mount an invasion. I've got a lot of muskets but nothing else that will help me in an invasion. Actually I have an old veteran quecha with woody3 and medic1--a great medic who could become a supermedic with a great general. But I won't have a great general until privateers or after a war. I can build cats maces knights trebs pikemen (who get some bonus from a random event which I forget because I don't usually build them). I can't wait for rifles without losing my quest.

So would you invade a far away land just for that mausoleum to enhance the 6 golden ages you are about to have? If so, what is the composition of the invasion fleet?

yes, i would invade a technologically inferior player who i was gonna wipe out anyway to enhance the golden ages - just make sure his SoD doesn't take you out.

It is probably not worth it. Getting the 'free' GA's will be nice, but spending many a turn on generating an invasion force seems like an effort that is not justified by the yields it will bring you.

Longer GA's will bring in some nice bonusses, the MoM will gain you a total period equal to 3 GA's. If you think building an invasion force is less effort that the yields 3 GA's may bring you then go for it, but it seems to me that capturing and holding it is not worth the effort. If you focus a few GA's into getting you towards your goal of winning the game it will be time much better spent IMO.

If the extra GA turns will help me win faster than I would've won if I hadn't gone the intercontinental invasion, definately.
But then again, if the effort of intercontinental invasion was put towards winning, you may find that the 3 GA's is not worth it.

I'd say crossing the entire ocean just for the MoM is a bad idea. If the other continent is a love-fest every one will hate you and possibly they will be bribed into attacking you, triggering a world war. Then try and see if the 3 GA's are worth it, especially after you have put in a major effort to not only capture the MoM but into actually holding it as well.

No. You seem ahead of the game already. I would probably just take the one (normal) golden age off Taj. Then, depending on exactly what great people you have, continue saving them to found corporations, which should secure the late game (particularly merchant for food corp; engineer for mining; artist for jewelers if you can't get mining). Settle any remaining prophets; settle or academy/scotland yard for scientists or spies.

i'd give it a miss personally, sounds like you are in a strong postion already and the extra turns of a GA probably won't make too much difference to winning or losing this game, also by the time you get your force to the city they could well have muskets/grens themselves

focus on your choose victory condition instead

I would use the three GAs you have coming to build a force to conquer your continent. The extra land will more than compensate for extra GA length.

GA are great and all, but this sounds like going WAY outta your way for a decent benefit. I agree with Corpse, conquer your continent, and that will be much more effiecient.

Do what you consider the most fun, it's pretty obvious you're not going to lose this game in any case. ;)

Best answer to any question on the forums. Cheers to Gliese.

Yeah, Gilese's answer is really correct. I'm not going to lose. It's just cool to imagine getting 6x24x1.5=216 turns of golden age (or more). The fact of the matter is I think I could win in that time if I focused on it. But I'm having fun.

After playing a game where I managed to pick up the Mausoleum, Taj, and enough GPs for 3 other GAs, I'd definately say go for it. GAs are awesomely powerful, especially from the Renaissance onwards.

I'd do it, but I play Marathon. Iv'e gotten 144 turns of GA before and it was nice. If you're really lucky, you'll get another GA during your invasion from that random event where a soldier runs all the way back home to warn of the war too.

Marathon, philosophical, and early stage SE, I'd consider it.

I would definitely do it for the conquest element, but i'd go for a large enough invasion to force him into capitulation, negating the effects of his culture on the MoM Cities borders. And give him his other cities back (which usually brings them back to pleased after war  )
