Well, a new mod called Environment Skin: Sid Meier’s Civilization V, by a modder called GrrrArrrg, was released today and does exactly that. If you see the comments, you’ll see someone we know from Firaxis make a comment even.

Check it out at https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1702339134. I’m definitely trying it out at some point. Someone commented that it is 2.4 GB big. But It definitely looks awesomely weird and weirdly awesome.

Here are a couple of pictures posted there:

To answer the title of the thread : No!

But as a mod for nostalgic value : yes... maybe.

This is unbelievable stuff. It's almost like a new game but with Civ VI's systems.

When they started showing screens from civ6 back in '16 I was initially super disappointed in the art style. It's such a departure from the realism of civ5. But, I don't mind it as much now. The upside is the less realistic style helps highlight things like color coded districts, etc. And I think it works a little better with the fact that districts and wonders are on tiles.

However, Civ5 also had an art deco styling to many of the portraits and UI elements. Oh my goodness was that some beautiful stuff. I'm a total art deco sucker.

My big complaint is still how hard to it is to distinguish hills from flat tiles at-a-glance. I think this mod seems to keep some of civ5's hill art that stands out. It looks like they left cities and districts untouched, I'd be curious to see some users' screenshots. I knwo there's that other mod that makes the cities and districts have more buildings in them so they look more like organic sprawl... that might layer well on this.

Love the natural look. The Disney-land look to Civ6 has been a turn off for me so thanks!

The terrain art from Civ V was always superior. I like Civ VI's bright colors, but I think they might have been more suitable for a different kind of game than what it is trying to be--a historical What If that is considered the gateway to very complex strategy games.

It is an interesting idea. I’d say it needs to show a couple screenshots with a developed game, tough - we know the map looks cool in V fashion at the game start, but does it keep looking cool when you start adding districts and improvements?

    Love it. Will try it.
But no achievements if using mods, yes?

Will try this for sure, especially if it has the much superior Civ V units. But what about things that weren't in Civ V like volcanoes?

As to achievements, I seem to be getting them with mods enabled, but frankly, who cares?

    Ummm, no.
Civ V forests look so lifeless. As do its lakes.
To my eyes, the styles do not mix well at all, sorry.

While they certainly look gourgeous, they don’t quite fit the excellent art style of VI. VI might not be your taste, but everything works well together. Visually, it just works. 10/10 for art design.
V has an incredible “sloppy” non-coherent design. Almost hurting my eyes. The techno UI is way out of context. Every aspect in regards to design is constantly fighting with one another. The leader animations look and sound like they’re coming from another game all together.

I’m not sure these textures fit into either one of them.
    They look great, though

They should have kept them in a secret folder ready to experiment with while brainstorming/developing/testing VII

Nope. I prefer Civ VI artstyle - alive and kicking in comparisson to dead and dull. :p

Yes, the blend of units, terrain and "hour of day" effects is so perfect I simply can't help myself but to simply get my hands off the keyboard and mouse and marvel at the beauty of it all. And then stand up and do something else while my eyes stop bleeding from my attempts at discovering where my great musician is parked at.
