Infantries are HARD to beat... Even if you have a Modern Armour, the odds of you winning are less than 50%, both of you being Veteran unit, and the typical infantry fortied in a city. I am using infantry as an example because its mostly what you'll be up against...

Now I'll know not to whine when my modern armours lose...

Also you should take into account the MA retreat possibility. But I do like to have about double MA verses Infantry in a city, just to be sure.

Generally I find if you are the first to MA, and can build them quickly then you can defeat any enemy.

    Or mass upgrade tanks...

But, according to the combat calculator, there is like, a 23.3% chance a regular Tank would lose to a spear man if the spear man is Elite, fortified in Metropolis, grassland, and tank is crossing river. Now you know the power of the tank killing spearman. :p

I always make sure I have three MA for each defending spearman as I know how dangerous they can be

Not really! Just use artillery to reduce them to 1 hit point then send in the cavalry for the kill. Of course, an army of cavalry would surely be able to take on an infantryman fortified in a big city without much of a problem.

    Simply miscalculated!

Veteran (4HP) Modern Armor vs Veteran (4HP) Infantry, fortified in CITY on grasslands:

64% win chance for Modern Armor

    He... WTF!!!

The Combat Calculator just gave MA only 32.8 % win chance vs Infantry, but against MECH INFANTRY: 64%

There is something buggy and broken.

@ Longasc: you got it the other way around....

    vs MI: 32.8
    vs inf: 64

    Nothing buggy about it ;)

What is the penalty for attacking over river? Just no retreat cause river takes up maximum movement points to cross?

If the defender is across a river from the attacker, the defender gets an +25% bonus. Nothing else.
