Wow. No Babylonains for me unless I pay for delux edition and d/l the game?

There's no reason to be so rude, and 9 posts has no relation to the validity of his post or opinions.

And, they're giving you 18 Civs at launch, which is two more than Civ III and the same as Civ IV. The Babylonians are currently bonus content, but while there is no confirmation of this, I think it's fair to expect them to be downloadable content much like other Civs will be, and even then likely a part of the next expansion.

Yes currently it is the only way to get the Babylonians.

The real way to view it however is:
Would publishers keep producing various exclusive preorder deals and incredibly overpriced CE boxes if they were not selling.

Naturally the answer is no, no they would not.

The current state of the "market" is the fault of the consumers.

Wow, that's some original posting there form a 9 post member. Thank you for this- don't overtax your brain or fingers with any more responses to this thread please... thank you. I'm not important enough for your attention.

My post was more to ask is this really truly the only way to acquire the babylonians. I'd rather have a DVD or disk than d/l'ed only content.

There have been *scores* of posts on this in the last few months. Some with hundreds of posts; some shut down by the mods for trolling and flaming. The topic went on and and on.

We're all really tired of it, old timer.

Moderator Action: *snip*

Really? I have to get steam's version to get the full game and pay more for the experience?

You don't have to buy it through Steam to get Babylon. You can buy the same edition through Direct2Drive, but there don't seem to be any brick and mortar stores (to my knowledge) that offer Babylon.

get over it, its a bonus civ, either get it or dont get it.

Oh that is a good answer. So a company can do what ever they want and we should never complain or show how we are displeased about it. Maybe you are fine with it, but there are many people out there who are not fine with it.

I guess we are not allowed to say we do not agree with anything, or like the way things are done then?

No, you're free to that. But he's right. It's a BONUS Civ. You're getting the same amount at launch without Babylon that you got in Civ IV, and two more than Civ III. They could hold Babylon until the expansion or later DLC, but they're offering it now. I see no problem with that. If they were offering, say, 14 Civs and saying another four were bonus Civs, I'd have a problem with that.

Sure, you can complain. You can even boycott their products, throw them in a bay, and form a new nation.

Go ahead, write an angry email to Firaxis and I'm sure they'll be falling all over themselves to acquiesce to your demands.

When it comes to selling the property that they own, yes, or would you prefer that I be able to dictate the price and stipulations by which you'll sell me your house?

Firaxis used to be a bit more egalitarian. Expansions packs, sure, but this is rotten. :(

Look, DM. Everyone else has gotten used to this concept for MONTHS. Where the bleep have you been, anyway??

I don't need no bleepin' Babs ... instead, I expect to get the $100 Special Edition (don't want 2K/Firaxis to lose money on the production costs). I purchased the deluxe versions of civ3 and 4 also, though civ is the basically the only time a spend any money at all on vidgames ... for me it's the only game in town.

people are always complaining that on Steam you pay the same price for a digital copy even though it should cost less thanks to not having retail costs, so they turn around and give you addition content to the digital distributors to make the customers happy they aren't getting ripped off and all that does is cause the same customers to complain about something else.

Get over it, just buy it or don't buy it.

Except it is never fair to CUT OUT CONTENT that is already completed and created from the full game in order to charge extra for it.
The further this goes, the more it will include. In 3 years perhaps we'll get half the content we do today in games. Pay 1€ for the random map generator, pay 2€ for the late-game nuke tech.

Improbable? How improbable was it 10 years ago to imagine that when you buy a game you'd have to pay extra to play another civilization thats already on the disc?
Unheard of. But it happened. If noone complains about it, they will just raise the stakes. More and more extra payment, more microtransactions for completed content on day 1.
All while defenders keep saying "quit whining, noone forces you to buy it" while the end result is just that the majority of us get less and less content for higher and higher price of games.

Except, ya know, it's NOT on the disc. It's digital only. And it's NOT cut out from the complete game. Did you read what I said? 18 Civs. It's complete. Babylon was made as a BONUS.

How about we just let this thread die out with the other dozens of threads with exactly the same argument? Every argument has been recycled thrice in the zero day DLC thread alone.
