WTP 4.1 installation issues (non-Steam Col)

I'm returning to Colonization after many years. I mostly used the mods TAC and RAR at the time, so naturally want to give WTP a run. I have a fresh install of the DVD version (i.e. non-Steam) of Colonization with the latest patch 1.01f.

So I downloaded WTP 4.1 and scrupulously followed the 5 steps in "install instructions.txt". I then launch the vanilla game, go to "advanced" then "load a mod" and select "WeThePeople-4.1". Then I get error messages like the following:
1739878404330.png

More specifically, a get a ton of similar messages (maybe 3-4 different ones), some (all?) of them repeating multiple times. If I keep pressing Esc they eventually stop appearing. After that, either I'm kicked back to desktop or the game starts (I see the WTP in-game start menu), but then CTDs when I actually launch a new game.

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong and/or how to fix? Any support much appreciated!

It looks like the mod's CvGameCoreDll.dll isn't being loaded. This is either due to it being missing (it should be in Assets) or that tbb.dll and tbbmalloc.dll isn't in the right place. Getting all the files you need is done by downloading WeThePeople-4.1.zip, not "Source code (zip)". Moving the tbb files is done by double clicking setup.bat or if you do it manually, copy the content of "Copy to Colonization.exe" into the game directory (the one with colonization.exe).

The install guide will be completely rewritten for the next release. The current one is not as easy to follow as we would like.

Ok. I repeated step 5 manually (previously I used setup.bat) and after that it worked. Many thanks!

Indeed. Interestingly, the DOS (?) message I got after running the script suggested everything went fine. I'm on Windows 11 Pro and the vanilla game is installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization, which was the default location suggested at installation. Perhaps Windows "protected" against writing into that directory. But I'm glad it works now. Thanks again.

Quick game setup question: I wanted to play on the "Americas Gigantic" map (the one with historically accurate starting locations and resources) but noticed that only one leader per faction is available for this map. Is there any way to access the missing leaders?

It doesn't look like it. I wonder if that is a fixable issue

Well it's not a big deal. It's actually quite easy to edit the map file (for example with Notepad) and replace a leader name with another.
