The Marines are already in the game, and the Navy SEALs were still known as UDT during WW2. I have an option for the American Unique Unit.
During the war they were know as the First Special Service Force, and consisted of airborne ski-commandos. In fact, they are considered to be the precursors to the modern day Green Berets and have been described as "the elite of the elite."
To give an example of their abilities, on the newly established Anzio Beachhead, the First Special Service Force held 13 of the 49 kilometers of beachhead while 40% understrength and continuing to push back and penetrate the German line of resistance for 99 days straight without relief. They spearheaded the breakout from Anzio on the right flank in the drive to Rome and moved so quickly and aggressivly that the left flank was unable to keep up and left themselves vulnerable.
They earned the title the Black Devils from the Germans, because by this time their mountain/ski pants had become quite baggy and they operated at night with blackened faces. They also attacked with psychological warfare by leaving stickers with the slogan "The Worst is Yet to Come" in German on their victims. They have been known more commonly as the Devil's Brigade as they were nicknamed in the books and movies made about the hard-hitting unit after the war.
They were famous for operations in the Aleutians, Italy, Africa, and Germany. They operated in every theatre and were always successful. They captured Monte La Difensa in two hours when it had defied capture by two US regiments and British Brigades from three separate 5th Army Divisions for weeks.
They were an amazing force in WW2 and were truly "the elite of the elite." Out of its 2500 man structure, there developed ten Generals and an untold number of full Colonels. The Devils Brigade would make an excellent American Unique Unit.
