ww2 sen,

 Reality Check. If the scenario was to be TOTALLY correct, Firaxis would have to add a LOT to the game just to make it historically accurate. Sure, the AA animation needs to be changed, however, the game would have to have rules for dive bombers, etc, the fact that AA guns were NOT being manned until the Japanese were well into the attack and lastly a large portion of the ships were sunk. I played as the Americans and no planes were shot down, but none of the bombardments were sucessful.

 Ok, but that is just my opinion. Besides...if you don't like it, mod it.

air craft always being shot down by aa, why cant they just take damage??
I asked the same question in the beta. After all, these air units are squadron-size at least; losing part of the group to flak would seem more realistic. And they already have a damage/partial loss system in place. And the all-or-nothing loss can feel crippling when you only have one or two bombers, like on a carrier. (Or when it was an elite!!!) And doing it this way (as opposed to partial losses,) you can't heal back to full previous strength. But perhaps that was part of their carefully-adjusted, thoroughly playtested attrition calculations. :)

Anyway, i'm just saying losing a whole unit to flak can be jarring at first, but i got used to it, especially considering the great work the programmers did in many areas. If this would have been too much, with the tight production deadline, they did the right thing.

Would +HP fix this?

I don't think so; my impression is that the Flak either kills or misses.

That wasn't my intention when i suggested the unit (in fact, i would have tied it to cities, perhaps as an improvement) but i like how it turned out.

Come on, Vietcong. Very few squads, battalions, whatever are actual completely destroyed. PLANES WERE SHOT DOWN! Deal with it. You still bombed Pearl Harbor. Would you like it better if your entire army was half a-bombs and all allied cities have no defenders? If you want Honolulu to be a sitting duck edit it.

planes shold only take damage, not get completly destroyed in one bombing run, unless thers some freak acadent....

I'll agree with Vietcong here. Planes were shot down with flak but only really cause the flak hit someplace vital (a wing for example, or an engine) Although direct hits were rare they did happen so planes were destroyed that way, but just because a plane gets hit by flak doesn't mean that that plane is automatically destroyed. I've read many times in WW2 sources of planes coming back full of holes

I know. I have seen some pictures of planes coming back with wicked damage done. Talk about survivability! Funny thing is, some aircraft they still come back with damage from flak today! There are quite a few stories of A-10s that were shot up, but still made it back.

However, I do agree that there should be something instead of "all or nothing". It's irritating to be able to carry a limited number of planes on a carrier, only to get them blown away on their first run. It's almost as if the bonus for using aircraft is worthless now. You can kill the fighters in a pre-bombardment, but that still leaves the ships/AA guns.

I like the HP idea. Can't heal it, but at least the planes will last longer.
