WWII Yugoslav Croatian Rifleman (Axis) v.1.0
x_YugoRM_default1.gif

get it here, at my units section (post 5)

Note: To all you WWII-Scenario experts and What-if-World builders- here is your genuine Croatian Rifleman Soldier as appeared in the period of WWII. Njoy! After the German invasion following the the coup d'etat against the pro-German Yugoslav government and the provisional government's breaking of the Axis treaty (Steel Pact), Croatia was allowed to formaly gain its independence from Yugoslavia. A Croatian army was formed that would fight alongside the Germans, proving to be most useful against the various partisan units and bandits across the Yugoslav mountains. This unit is not to be confused with Ustasha militia and represents the standing army of Croatia. Njoy!

... anyone wanna make a try with copy-pasting and help out if I'd give ya the resources?

I'd provide the heads in all directions and all you'd have to do is snap them onto the trooper in every frame, and in such a way that it doesn't look as if its wobbling...

This is a great unit, I'm going to call it, 13.Waffen-SS Gebirgs Kroatische.

You can certainly give it the name you like, though I'd personaly rather not get any Yugoslav unit in connection with either SS- or certain specific Partisan agroupations by name.

Will the greek ww2 unit be standing army or quasi-partisan? (the latter having the white skirt-like costume) :) (i would advise the first, because there is already a greek guard unit made by bebro iirc, that can be used for pretty much any period after 1850 i think).

A good name for it is "stratiotes" (good choice since that name is recognisable from games like RON, and just means "soldier", which is what they are called anyway)

LoL- thx Varwos- no, no Evzones this time. My long-term goal would be to replace all (or most of BeBro's) WWII units and a fair number of WWI ones, so as to get to a common look. Though it'd look fun to see Mussolini's "Legions" advance against those :D Nah, I am kinda inspired by this pic over here I just scanned from my book. (note the scared looks on those Greeks' faces?...no? LoL me neither  I think the Italians had a massive PR problem those days)

I will try to find a pic although it probably was light brown.
They were happy (most of them were smiling when enlisting) not due to some bravery, but mostly because it was relatively not long after 1922 and the loss of greek asia minor, so the general feeling was that a new war might erase in a way the bad mood of the last one. Also those were times of poverty, so they probably didnt have much to lose (possibly it was the same for most of europe though). Im sure the smiles were replaced with tears when the real face of war was shown.

edit: here is a pic :) (the hats in your pic are softer ones, and probably will look better, since the ones in this pic look too close to british ones)

My grandfather, who died recently, fought in the war as many others.I remember him telling me stories from many battles that he fought, always with a sad feeling on his face which i think is common, for those who really experienced the terror of a war.
But he was always smiling when he brought back memories from the first days, when everybody jointed up to move to the front. He used to call it "The grand festival".Why?
Well,at the time just before the Italian invansion,Mussolini provoked Greece with every possible mean.He laughed at the Greek army(which was outnumbered and poorly equiped)proclaimed from the balcony of Palazo Venezia that he would send "41 million spears" against the beggars of Greece and conquer it within 3 days.
But it was one major incident that made everyone furious.
It took place during a period of peace when on August 15th 1940,the submarine DELFINO,approached in safety while submerged the swift cruiser "ELLI", anchored and decorated with flags in front of the harbour of Tinos for the celebration of Virgin Mary, and sunk it with 2 torpedoes.

It is a fact that Greeks are very proud and that was it.Everybody wanted to go to war.In every picture of departure for the front at that time, you will see them smiling, because after a long period of humiliation and provocation from Benito they can finaly answer. And you know what happen after,on the mountains of Albania.

As for the unit i think that the one from your book is the most apropriate and accurate one from that period. Here is another similar

I am looking forward for this and the rest of your units.

I should thank you,for all those great units that you made so far and which i never comment although,i am using them all in my games,me and many others.

Here is a picture from the Hellenic military museum for color reference. It's up to you to deside,if you're going to make the long coat or not.
