You can't build a trade route with city-state which is not on the coast through ocean...

Sorry for the language...Just as shown in the screenshot, the blue city-state ask me to trade with him...And when everything is ready, I found that I can trade with another city which is farther than this one just because it is on the coast (the brown straight line). That means if I want to trade with the blue city through land, I have to build a extremely twisted and long way.

Come on, is human being that stupid? I think this design can be improved.
 
You can trade cities with having harbor, and if you trade another city close to it, you build trade post there meaning increases your trade range. So you can build first trade routte to that other coastal city and reach step by step any city in the game, except for a city locked only itself in an island wiyhout having a harbor. I think the new trade system is brilliant. And you get gold bonuses every city passed through the new route that you have trading post.
