You ever forget? It happened to me.

I took a small civ break for a few months to catch up on my backlog of other games but no game can give me a mental orgasm like Civ can so I'm back. Although, I have realized that in my absence I managed to forget some stuff. I know there are a lot of people that use BUG nowadays. So I am hoping someone can tell me where you can see who is plotting war on you. I thought it was the little fist in the score tab but it seems that is for telling me who is lready in a war. (Which makes a LOT more sense now.) But I don't remember where the notifier someone is plotting war is.

I know I forgot some other stuff (Ex-Monarch player struggling on Prince ATM) but I can't think of anything else right now. It may be my strategy isn't as tight as it once was and I just need a few games under my belt again. But I have definitely forgot some stuff. Any help with this war plotting thing is greatly appreciated.

The Fist can mean both "plotting war" or "at war". Also, you can go to the Military Advisor (F4..i think) and click on the second screen - forget the name at the moment. You can see WEs, "temperature", who can be bribed on whom, possible embargos, and vassals.

That is a handy screen I dont think I knew about before. But I rarely use the Military advisor screen in this iteration of Civ. Its a shame really. I loved using Civ 3's to upgrade my units. I liked 3's military advisor screen in general though. I need to give BUGs a good look through though. It sounds useful again.

To amplify what Lymond said, the fist means that the AI is busy with war (We Have Enough On Our Hands). This can either mean that it is already at war or that it is preparing for war.

One more question:

What about the little revolt citizen that shows up on the score list? I don't think I ever knew what he meant. It's the same graphic that shows up to tell you how many turns until your whip unhappiness goes away in the city menu but it pops up on the score list by the little fist sometimes. What's that mean?

By the way, I dig the new military advisor. Thanks for showing me that.

Are you speaking of the round "smiley" or the head and shoulders face? The round ones indicate how the AI feels about you: Yellow = Friendly, Green = Pleased, Gray = Cautious, Blue = Annoyed, Red = Furious. The head and shoulders means you are the AI's worst enemy.

Forget? You bet'cha.

I used to be able to win the occasional Deity game, most Immortal games, and practically every Emperor game. I took about a year and a half break, and now I'm struggling on Noble. hah

To be fair, I'm using K-Mod which seems to have rewritten the AI's attitude, and I'm still thinking that things are acting like the old system.

Things I have forgotten:

Who declares war at peaceful // friendly.
How many happens does a whip provide.
The penalty for whipping.
What every trait does.
--For example: I erroneously thought Charismatic gave +culture. And one game I played as a Charismatic leader and ignored Mysticism for a long time thinking I didn't need monuments for early boarder pops. Oops!

That grassland forests look almost exactly like grassland hill forests.
--Settling that great person farm with 6 hills in the BFC didn't work out too well!

And a lot more I'm sure I haven't realized yet. Oh Civ, I feel like such a noob again. hah

Well, I am on my first immortal game and have not seen this screen you folks are talking about. Is this in BTS?

I have noticed a lot of screenshots of screens here that aren't in my game and assumed they were mod screens. I dunno.

Is the BUG mod a cheat? In other words, does it tell you things u usually couldn't know? Or is it more of a gathering of things u could know but u don't see as easily? Thinking about dll'ing it if it isn't a cheat.

BUG is not a cheat. It's basically a user interface mod that makes it easier to see things that are available in other screens. It may also add new info, I think, but nothing that can be considered cheating.

BUG stands for "BTS Unaltered Gameplay." Effectively nothing is changed except for WHERE the information is given to you.

It is quite possible to get all of the information that BUG gives you without the BUG mod. However, to get all this information you would be checking dozens of screens every turn.

So long since I've played vanilla Civ 4 I'm not sure if it's new of just more difficult to find un-BUGed. But with BUG you can see what the different diplo negatives and positives are, and I don't think vanilla displays them all as well as that.

However, the main thing is that the info is much easier to get to. It's highly recommended to use, and many people do in here. As Kesshi says it's unaltered gameplay, so it can't be considered cheating. It improves info directly to the player. Probably the feature I like the most is the improved scoreboard that lists how many cities each player has, the power ratio (with enough espionage) and state religions. Having all that in the main game is very useful.

Then there is a dotmap function that you enable by clicking Alt-X. There you can plan out where you want to place your cities by overlaying BFCs in the main map. Don't think this is in vanilla Civ 4 either, and it's quite handy when planning where to put your cities as it's easier to see what tiles are included in each city.

That one's probably my favourite BUG feature. Gone are the days when you had to take a screenshot and then make your dotmap in a separate image editor.
