Since there are no subcategories for this game on this forum, I guess this is as good a place as any to ask these questions.

Speaking of ship speed...anybody notice a slowdown and zooms in, whenever another ship comes close to your fleet...(DANG Canoes :ar15: )

Speaking of which...Does anybody know what the purpose of the war canoes is/are? (other than the obvious Indians on the warpath) I mean I have played this game for about a week straight, at least 14 hours a day and have yet to attack one or feel the need for that matter. I have yet to see a purpose in the Indian villages. Aren't they just a less colorful version of a pirate hangout? Don't they amount to the same thing?

...and...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WILL YOU QUIT ASKING ME IF I WANT TO ATTACK EVERY &*%*&%$ SHIP that crosses paths with me. Isn't that what that blinking #5 button is for? :wallbash:

Is it possible for the player to attack settlements cuz Ive seen the AI do it and win?

It would be really nice if you could win enough favor with a particular Government to be instated as an official member (instead of a pirate) although that would kinda go against the game title.

And why is it that the number one shipping nation never has any good ships to capture? IE:SOTL or Frigates. I mean its obvious that Spain is going to have to be your biggest target but with the least payoff ??? No matter how much you cheese them off, all your going to be getting are galleons..oooh! nothing like taking on the world in a supper slug! (where's the aspirin?)

and while I'm at it...could somebody make the ship improvements display on the fleet status screen a little clearer...like say a box for each improvement...I spent six months trying to get to a city to buy chain shot only to realize that I already had it on my whole fleet, it was just so jumbled up on the fleet screen I didn't realize I already had it. MORE--> :wallbash:

Speaking of jumbled screens...is it just me, or does the shipwright info box cover the front of every ship making them all look like boxes (drawn with crayon no less)...yes,yes I know if you squint really hard you can see through it..but not enough to really tell its a ship.IMHO. :twitch:

lets not forget that your sail emblem only shows on the front of the small ships, I cant figure why my larger vessels with HUGE sails don't have the sail emblems showing in a more obvious position...MORE---> :wallbash:

Also, Ive noticed that if I escort a governor or migrants to a town/city/whatever that the city gets better in some way or another but apparently all the other times these ships seem to have very little to no effect on the town or city they visit...seems that way anyways cuz I'm seeing ships all over the place and none of the cities I visit seem to have grown/improved at all.

All in all, I like the game alot...probably the best game Ive ever played...although whomever decided on the player getting old either never played the game or doesn't like to play it very long.. I mean come on by the time your good at dancing or dueling your too old for it to do any good, lol Oh well, Thank God for Trainers :goodjob:

Looking forward to the next version...GO ROWBOATS! :mischief:

    1) none
    2) view gets closer too
    3) never noticed, I use them for my flagship!!
    4) use that too.
    5) settlements - never.
    6) you need to be clearer in what you propose, does Duke count?
    7) Firaxis refuses to admit that Spain actually constructed SOTLs.
8 ) clear enough for the rest of us
    9) what are you talking about
    10) look closely; programming decisions (and every decision made by Firaxis druring development was expressly chosen to limit all future possibilities)
    11) what are you asking? P.S. your second observation in this paragraph is incorrect.
    12) The trainers only work on the original edition UNPATCHED.

13 Implied -> try some of the patches.

Sorry Rupert, I didn't number my questions so your responses are a bit confusing..:crazyeye:
I'm still sitting here trying to match them up..

Oh well, If your saying that you can use canoes, well yes I guess its true and a lot of guys do. But lets be honest - its not exactly realism..or close for that matter.

I have the latest patch and a really good trainer. I don't mess with all the settings. I just have it set to not let me age and keep my crew happy so I don't have to give away every other friggin frigate. Still I played for about 40 hours straight on one game and I could keep going although I have won everything I possibly could (on easy mode). I cant (actually I can) imagine playing this game and having to worry about getting old and giving away every other decent ship just to keep my crew from crying. There has got to be a better way of doing that.

As far as having the nation give you nationhood(?)-I admit that Duke is great but in reality your still a pirate even if you manage to capture every port and turn it over to your "favorite" nation. Like I said it would be nice, because its hard to do...but then you would be getting out of the realm of pirates and that after all is what the game is about I guess. (although what canoes have to do with it is rather dubius now that I think about it.) Cant remember if Capt. Kidd had to fight with them or not. :mischief:

About the SOTL issue, if Firaxis is intent on being factual please read previous paragraph. IE:canoes as flagships for fleets or attacking SOTL :mischief:

Concerning the "clearer" Fleet status screen - I understand that what they have works...thats not my issue...it's just that when you looking down a column of items -subconsciously your assuming that things are in some kind of order, and they are to some extent but the lack of/abundance of certain upgrades puts the upgrades into a kind of blurry mix that can really get you reaching for the Advil. I just wish they had made some kind of columns so that you could tell at a glance what was missing. As it stands you could probably write this paragraph in the time it take me to figure out what up grades I have and need...Its not that big an issue...would be nice though.

The shipwright screen - What I'm getting at is that as your repairing/improving your ships-anything bigger than a sloop and all you are really seeing is the (crappy drawing) of the last 2/3rds of the ship...although technically you can see through the repair/upgrade menu...It just kinda sucks that you cant really see that big beautiful SOTL that you just captured. IMO

I don't understand what you referring to when you say that the game was designed in a way to limit further possibilities. sorry. (wish I did though)

About the getting old bit...Yes, I admit I was being a little sarcastic. I for one love the idea of playing the whole available time period. The age restriction just forces someone without a trainer to play only certain periods of time...(again look at the above paragraph on realism)

finally again, I have the latest patch and I am looking for some decent mods (yes I know where they are, I just happened to check on this thread first..:) )
and my trainer works fine for what I needed.

Thanks for the feedback and I hope your having as much fun with this game as I am...really. It truly is the best game (with the trainer) that I have played in years, and yes I do have CivIV ;)

check the other threads and other pirate forums.

Canoes attacking SOTL is historically accurate.

Well, I guess I can quit looking for who first used canibis. Now to look up the first nation(?) to attack an SOTL with canoes...that should answer both questions.

While it may be acurate, I know that tanks have been captured by lone infantry but I wouldnt want to be the guy trying it.

    haven't seen tanks in Pirates!

And the Chinese Pirates who captured Brittish warships had nothing they could do with them so they used them for raw materials to make more assault junks.

    (Hong Kong Legend)

Canada has a nice little museum documenting a case of small craft capturing a military vessel. Akin to : war canoe captures Frigate.

Have you done your research into what a "war canoe" really is or the amount of assault crew they could hold?

Ok, First as stated, this is far from the BIG issue with me and I understand your point. Fact is you could storm the largest SOTL (Im seeing Yamoto) in a pair of house slippers if if was close enough to shore or docked at a pier. However just because it could and maybe did happen doesnt mean it should be as intergal a part of the game. IMO

However Im sure your correct about indian raiders attacking SOTL's.

Yes, I do understand what there refering to by "War Canoe", sounds like something that Robinson Crusoe built, or maybe akin to the smaller fishing vessels used by locals in Africa and of course the Carribean.

do some google searches on war canoe.
    Then try Locos multimedia.

Fishing vessels equating to War canoes . . . do your research.

Ok guys I get it. Does anybody have any input on the other issues?

Sorry I had a few links to other very similar vessels but I got logged out before I could complete my response. I dont mean to beat a dead horse, but try looking up "caribean war canoe" or finding a picture of a war canoe built by a caribean/South American tribe. As you can see the larger vesels like the NZ war canoe and Viking long boats are acurate and quite possibly moderate oponents but from all the research Ive done (about 2 hours) I cant find anything remotely scary to a ship of the line in the caribean, or at least not that it would require adding to the game. Anybody heard of the Boston Tea Party? a few guys dressed as Indians storm a ship (merchant in this case), but you dont see people attacking ships in the game.
