How does this work?

I know that normally I can get up to +4 for "trade is fair and forthright" if I trade/gift techs to an AI generously. But sometimes, I also see that I get an additional +1 for "sharing tech discoveries". I get this a few times when trading with Mansa Musa and (I think) with Alex.

1/ How to I get this +1 for sharing tech discovery? I tried gifting expensive techs I researched myself to some other AIs but I did not get this +1.

2/ Is +1 the maximum I can get for this?

I've only gotten it via gifting a TON of techs to vassals. I am not sure what the tech gifting threshold is before it triggers, or if it varies between AIs.

They request help in the form of technolgy and you agree. If they don't request and you just give, it's a different modifier.

Sometimes you get it by trading lots of techs with them, and for a long time, even if the trades were not lopsided in their favour. It's a very long term relationship thing though.

I'm too stubborn to learn all these diplomacy strategies, so I never give in to any demands. I got this bonus near the very end of a game in which I had been a tech buddy with Mansa the whole game. It never got above +1.

Only time I've seen it.

I'm pretty sure the "shared your discoveries" bonus is for giving them an important strategic tech.

Nope. Giving them their requests is "you gave us help" or "you gave us tribute.

I've never seen it higher.

I've seen it at +3

I could be wrong, but I thought it was for giving them a tech when you were the only civ that had it at the time, a monopoly tech in other words.

I'm pretty sure its just that you have in some way (through demands, gifts or trade) given them enough techs
I think the threshold for getting it varies between leaders and at a guess so does the maximum relationship bonus. (e.g: you could get mansa to +3 and Toku only to +1)
