I would've just formated the HD, I mean, really, I look for almost any excuse I can to reboot and reinstall the OS, since it gets dusty. ONly problem is that ytou have to re0instal all those drivers and Windwos Updates, also the Utilities (Anti-virus, Spyware Scanner).

After a clean reinstall, make a bit for bit backup of the harddrive and burn it on some DVD/CD, and just use that one every time you want to reinstall. I think it's possible at least?

I dunno if it happens to entirely innocent people, but I'm pretty sure it happens.

True, but the next time you reload you can make a ghost image of the drive after loading all the windows security crap and even after loading all the programs you know you will be using - but I would recommend just loading the windows security crap because by time you go to reload next time there might be a newer version of the other programs and then you will have made your registry a little dirtier by deinstalling/installing over top of the out dated program.

The last time I scanned all my hard drives for viruses it took about 6 hours. And nothing serious was found. I used some other programs at the same time too, so it might have slowed the scanning for some time.

If you are playing a game whilst scanning then virtually no scanning will be done as it seems that recent virus scanners have a low priority so that they scanning slows down rather than slowing down other programs that the user might urgently want to use.
