Hi everyone,

I have a teenager with an attitude and some homework...
Any excel wizards to the rescue?

Given the following data

Day 1: 2 inches; SW
Day 2: 3 inches; NW
Day 3: 4 inches; SW
Day 4: 0 inches; NE
Day 5: 1 inch S

I would like a bar chart showing rainfall by day, namely 2,3,4,0,1

Each bar should be coloured according to wind direction;
so different colours for each direction,
identical colours on above data for day 1 & 3.

Thanks muchly...

(obviously, the real data is much more extensive and varied than the above, but the principle holds)

You need to set up 8 different series for the directions. So, have 8 different columns, one for each direction. Then, put the speed in the appropriate column, e.g.:

.....N....NE....E....SE....S....SW....W....NW
1...0.....0.....0......0.....0....2......0......0..
2...0.....0.....0......0.....0....0......0......3..
3... etc

Then just use the bar chart wizard thingo for each series. Each series (bar) will have a different colour. You can tweak the "Overlap" and "Gap" in the bars to make them look better.

If one thinks back to the original point in the OP, one notes that all he has to do is input the data, select it, find the "chart" or "graph" button or whatever, and then mess around with the settings until it looks right. That's what I do whenever I need a graph.
