I'm beginning to think I should've listened to my parents about sharing. In my "exploring Conquests" game, I was playing as France. Most of my land was on a peninsula. The chokepoint was held by four Ivories. Spotting them, I knew I wanted to build there, so I beat a settler out of Paris to get it quickly, before the other powers did. In mid-expansion phase, I spotted two German warriors and an archer heading for Lyons, my Zeus spot. Lyons was building Zeus about then. I told Bismark to shove off, and he declared war. This was a phony war. His troops were butchered. I took peace and his bank account.

At the very end of the expansion phase, Bismark tried the sneak attack again, with three archers and two warriors. Same thing happened- I told him to scram, he refused..only this time, I killed all of the archers I could find in his land and took peace, an optional tech, and some gold.

Then, during the medieval era, he started again, sending archers at me. This time I was really annoyed. I had been planning for the eventual take-over of Germany, and had assembled a lovely mongrel force of Knights, Ancient Cavalry, Medieval Infantry, Crusaders, and trebuchets. I started sacking German cities. I noticed the English sending horsemen to Lyons. I couldn't believe this, so I signed England to an MA. That was handy. The English got manhandled by the German army at first, but slowly won. This meant I was under no offensive pressure, and I had won most cities. Then England betrayed me by signing peace five turns before the agreement expired- and then she started sending troops into my territory.

What's with this? I've NEVER had this many sneak attacks against one place before- only one sneak attack against me in the four months I've been playng. Below is the current save. Play a few turns, and I guarantee you that England sneak-attacks.

(The FP in Lyons is a wonder prebuild...I don't dare build that FP until I figure out how it effects the game now)

This is the English army occupying what's left of the German offensive force for me. Good Lizzy.

Nope! Haven't razed a one. I plan on keeping all my conquests. Maybe I have all of the ivory on the planet? No one else was building Zeus..

And it's not a good city site. For now, it's stuck at 4- but I have two plains left to water.

That is what I call "the curse of the Celts". Every time I play as Celts, I'm dragged into endless wars with my neighbors who sneak attack with wimpy units, make peace for five turns, then attack again. In one game, I was at war with at least one of my four neighbors from 2000B.C. to 1700A.D. The Arabs declared war on me NINE times in that game.
Smellincoffee, I feel for ya. Sometimes an AI opponent just has it in for you, and their constant intrusions can make the game frustrating.

I took care of it. :hammer: ed both Germany and England. They were useless until I got police stations, however, due to the fact that I never could built a FP. (Due to fear of corruption)

That IS kind of unusual. I assume that you were playing at a skill level higher then Chieftain, and (If you have Conquests), the AI agression level was set a bit higher? If not, I have found England to be slightly more agressive then the norm for AI's, but then again, they are expansionist. I find Civ's that sneak attack me include Carthage and Zulu *shaking fist at both*, or my evil friends in multiplayer.

FP causes corruption? Huh?
Anyway .. yes, Germany's power goes to it's head whether they have any or not! I hate playing with the Germans. You must be playing PTW because I don't have those civs.
How unfortunate for that to occur. :( Well, at least you took care of it! :P

I was playing at "testing difficulty"- warlord- and normal agression.

Rtil- the FP bug is a Conquests-specificthing. Zululand is in the original game, but Carthage is in PTW/C3C. :)

In retrospect, it's incredibly good they were so ignorant. I was able to take advantage of Korea in a thousand years+ war (the Korea AI was practically playing an AW game; solid, unbroken war from medieval to the game's in in modern) by selling excess coal and iron-- mostly due to the fact I was the ONLY civ Korea wasn't at war with.

(I developed an attraction for Korea in this game, and have so far played as them in two games. )

I only play conquest .. so should I stop building the FP? Or is it only in ptw.

The FP bug is only in Conquests-- not PTW. But it's supposed to be fixed ina a patch next week.

ok for one we are not evil RealGoober, we arejust your friends. And secondly, man that must really have sucked to get sneak attacked so many times. My sujestion is to just kill them all. After that you have no enemies to sneak attack you (maybe I am evil :D)

The English probably don't like you because you said you razed some German cities. The AI hates you for that. And the Germans, well Bismark is just a bastard.

Hey Mongloid Cow - love your Avatar!

Yes this is true, Bismarck alway hassle you. Once I played Bismarck - and who was hassling the other civs then :D
Didn't even get to the Panzer.

Normally I feel the AI hates me in all cases, but I play more or less pure conquest - warfaring civ.

Long live the Cows!:king:

Nothing like plugging along and then having like 50 units suddenly appear on your border ;)
