Has anyone even tried Feudalism? I would think it's a lot like Monarchy, but I have to be honest and say I never even thought of trying it.

Eventually with a Republic, the Lux slider can't help the overwhelming WW, and you have to declare peace.

How did you get overwhelming WW in the first place?
I've fought long lasting conquest campaigns in republic, granted, I was playing below emperor difficulty, but still....

Sometimes you don't need very much in order to push you over the top. Building US plus Police Stations, I've very rarely had problems with WW.

Besides, by that late in the game I'll build a wonder just to deny the AI from getting it.

I like Communism is Civ 3 for large empires. Other than that, my most preferred government is Republic.
Indeed, still, has anyone ever compared Monarchy to Feudalism? I think they wouldn't be so different.

I voted for "depends on the situation" for one reason.

YOU LEFT OUT FASCISM

Fascism can be a lot more useful than most people think. Its best use is late in the game when you have a small empire that does not have a lot of cities to support units. Using fascism, you're not penalized for having a huge army so you can use it without having to cut funds to entertainment or science.
And about the culture stuff and captured cities, burn them.
Of course, if you're not going for a military victory, you're probably better off with something else.

I always go republic, even in my warmonger games (and no I don't cheat and switch opponents whenever the WW gets rough), it helps keep me from running away with the technology because I have to spend a ton on the happiness slider.

I could always put the difficulty level up one more, but then I'm always an entire era behind the AI and thats messed up.

Feudalism has WW....I think

Feudalism does have WW but it is my current favourite for Sid games. I didn't vote because it wasn't on the list.

What's not to love? Plop down a town every 2 squares and you can instantly support 5 additional units. Turn your 1 pop into a tax collector (or scientist if you prefer) and don't bother with population growth (outside worker/settler factories of course).

Your failed town is now producing 1 shield/3 gold regardless of WW or corruption and allows you to field 5 more units in your army for free. Allows for a massive army and wars can be continued nearly indefinitely causing your enemy to suffer the WW effects, while you are nearly immune.

I see Anarchies uses (Not saying I like it but I see it's uses). The problem is, you can't start with Anarchy from the start to the end, you need production. But if you had an overly large military and are paying 100s in upkeep, and perhaps even at war, Anarchy has its use. Not very efficient but, once again, it has it's use.

The no-research thing isn't as bad as no production, because you could just make lot's of scientists.

I haven't tried this but wouldn't civil engineer specialists give you production during anarchy? My understanding is that civ engineers only add production to building improvements and not settlers/workers/units. Anyone know what happens to those accumulated shields if you use civ engineers to prebuild a building and then swap over to a settler/worker/unit?

This really opens up a lot of possible new strategies for me to try. At the very least I really need to think more about optimizing my anarchy turns more.

Ahh, I'm very happy to hear Feudalism has a niche. It would be unfortunate if the dev team wasted their time.

I believe that it works just like wonders - i.e., you lose those extra "engineer" shields if you switch production to a unit. The only way I've ever produced units in anarchy is by chopping down a nearby forest. (Heh, I didn't even realize I was doing it, during anarchy I was MMing and clearing forest for irrigation, and a unit popped out the next turn, I was like "WTF?")

If you're building a building or wonder and using CEs to make it go quicker, then switch to a unit, you lose the shields.

I prefer Facsism, but you didnt include 'em.
So i choose Communism instead. :p

Where are fascism and feudalism? :crazyeye:

Those two and communism are the best govt imo :hammer:
