On political debates on the Tom Petty message board, more than once I've posted links to CFC posts to make a point.

This is the guy's response in one thread:

    Spoiler :
As for Aimee, she's linking an online video game forum and using it to make her point. If you're disappointed that I won't click on a link to a video game forum, then sorry. I just do not find it substantial. Aimee already disqualified that place as a legit source of information by admitting the people there use political compass to understand their own political stance.

What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I find it hilarious.

The Political Compass is only quasi-useful as an estimation of political stances, mainly for comparison and for others to view, not for understanding your or someone else's political stance.

Quoting a forum discussion is like quoting Wikipedia - that is, not generally accepted as an acceptable source in its own right.

Edit: can you post a link to the original thread?

I think he doesn't want to answer you honestly.

But you shouldn't just post links to CFC posts to make your point; if you find the arguments presented here compelling, you should try to incorporate those viewpoints into your own, so that you can argue for your viewpoint in your own words. While an argument on CFC might be compelling to someone who reads it here, people won't find your argument very compelling if all it consists of is a link to a CFC post.

I say we trash that Petty joint.

But seriously, I would say its a reasonable assumption that a video game forum won't be worth reading for expert opinions on political issues. The same, however, goes for a forum dedicated to a musician.

I hereby vote that we invade that forum. A CFC takeover. Part of our preliminary campaign to invade Sark.
