Religion?

in general I feel it is a bad thing most especially organized religion. Of course if one wants to worship trees, rocks, the sun, or anything else it's not really bothersome to me. When they start labeling others as evil infidels that should be harmed is when the line should definately be drawn.

Abortion?

allow it. a fetus is not sentient and there is no reason to believe if it doesn't have a nervous system that it can feel pain.

Welfare?

make it harder to recieve, but keep it

Affirmative Action?

against it. preferential treatment regarding race is wrong in my opinion.

The Death Penalty?

doesn't matter to me. I have no problem with letting the jury decide

Gay Marriage?

we should allow gay people to marry, or we should make heterosexual unions be called civil unions as well to please the religious.

Gay Adoption?

hey a loving home has to be better than an orphanage anyday of the week.

Hate Crimes?

I don't really believe someone should be punished more because they attacked someone of a different race or sexual orientation. just punish them for the crime.

Education?

for?

The Environment?

the enviroment should be protected in so far as it benifits humanity. I'm not really going to cry if some speices of insect is endangered or what not, but I do care about the possibility of the human race being threatend by global warming.

Animal Testing?

for. There is no other way to go about it. Rats and other such things have to be sacraficed to benifit humanity with new medications.

AIDS?

against? who exactly is pro aids?

School Vouchers?

no because it helps religious schools and takes away funding from public ones.

School Prayer?

if an individual wants to pray I can't stop him. In fact unless your really trying to annoy someone by praying as loud as you can how would I know. Schools should not be able to have school wide prayers or encourage them.

"One Nation, Under God"?

whether it says under god, over god, or just doesn't say it at all I believe the US should get rid of a recognized pledge

Drug Legalization?

for. Since they only harm the willing user they should be allowed.

Prostitution Legalization?

legalize it and require the use of condoms.

Legalized Gambling?

legalize it. There is tax revenue to be earned from it.

Age of Consent?

I don't really think there should be a set age. I think it should be something like the greatest age difference between sexual partners until they hit 18 is 3 years. It becomes less confusing that way, and eliminates all the different ages of consent the states have.

Premarital Sex?

for

Single Parenthood?

unavoidable. Not like you can force someone to get married and taking away a child to someone that isn't would be more damaging to the child than growing up without a father/mother

School Uniforms?

I dislike the idea. clothing thousands of kids has got to be a pain. and since they have to buy there own clothes for non-school use so they should just wear there own clothes to school. Unless of course it is a private school then they should do whatever they desire.

Drinking Age of 21?

against it. Drinking should be a family issue if they don't want there kids to drink they should't allow it and once they hit 18 they should definately have the personal choice if they want to drink. It just seems silly to me that a 20 year old can be married have kids be addicted to cigarettes, but god forbid they crack open a beer.

Immigration?

legal immigration is a good thing. illegal immigration should be slowed down.

The War on Terror?

an ill defined war. I think we should make more clear objectives like kill osama as opposed to using a blanket term that can seemingly cover anything.

The Country's Current Leadership?

not that great. social conservatism seems to be in. which is bad enough, but whats worse is that they will support anyone who is one despite the rest of their policies. who cares about the major blunder that was iraq or the fact that we are now less secure as long as he's got jesus he's in(this attitude is scary to me at least)

Voting?

I'm all for voting

Saddam Hussein?

I don't really like him, but he wasn't as evil a dictator as he is usually talked about. He kept Iraq secular, safe, and was far from being the most evil guy alive.

Osama Bin Laden?

insane

Euthanasia?

I think it should be legal.

Assisted Suicide?

if you legalize euthanasia no one would have to help

Suicide?

tragic for their family and friends, but if someone doesn't want to live it's hard to stop them

Self-Mutilation?

they should probalby seek help

Mental Illness?

those suffering should take their medication

Eating Disorders?

they should eat food/eat less food

Addiction - A Choice or a Disease?

both. One chooses to take the substance that gives them the addiction, but it is also a disease of some sort.

Three Strikes Law?

against. it is too absolute and disregards any circumstances.

You Choose...
Bush or Kerry?

kerry

Republican or Democrat?

neither really. I'd say at best a moderate economic democrat would best represent me though there would still be big differences

Cheney or Edwards?

I didn't really pay much attention to Edwards, but I'd say he would have to be more like me than cheney

Rehabilitation or Imprisionment/Punishment?

neither. Rehabilitation should be the users choice to get unaddicted to drugs.

Marijuana - Legal or Illegal?

legal

Adoption or Abortion?

I suppose I support adoption more than abortion.

Life or Death?

life?

Gay Marriage or Civil Unions?

in my personal opion they should all be civil unions gay or straight.

Gay Marriage or Nothing?

gary marriage

Civil Unions or Nothing?

civil unions

Segregation or Intergration?

intergration?

Yes Or No...
Is our economy really on the mend?

don't know, but I'm not really an economist

Do homosexuals deserve equal rights under the law?

yes

Is banning gay marriage legalizing discrimination?

yes

Do we have a right to be in Iraq?

define right. Of course I don't think we should be there.

Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons?

no because there were no WMDs in Iraq.

Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction?

in Iraq no. but of course there are weapons of mass destruction elsewhere

Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership?

probably not

Questions
Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussien or Bin Laden?

Bin Laden since hussien is in prison.

Who do you feel is the best leader for our country?

Arnold. socialy liberal while economically slightly conservative

Would you support a legalized draft?

no. If not for the most important reason I have no desire to be drafted then because a volunteer military is better

What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?

the EU since it is gradually becoming stronger than America.

Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own?

aliances are typically benificial.

Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?

yes the christians and kkk members should be allowed to speak there mind. in fact it's better that way because if you make someone a martyr you help to further their cause.

Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?

sure it still exists, but I don't believe it is that big of a problem

Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country?

no I dont' believe so

Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?

yes, while they typically aren't beaten or anything homosexuals are still discriminated against(see bush's marriage ammendment)

Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country?

I don't think so.

Is religious discrimination a problem in our country?

only in the political area. you can obviously not elect someone that is not to some degree a christian. everywhere else while it might spark debate your not going to be burned at the stake or anything like that.

Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?

both have their place in foreign policy, keeping the peace is generally better in my opinion though

Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?

I don't know why there can't be a coexistance

Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy

politicians

If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?

I think your doing a bad job.

> Religion?

Personally agnostic. Think that "religion" is a bit big an nebulous to have a capsule opinion of.

> Abortion?

Should be legal within limits.

> Welfare?

Should be some.

> Affirmative Action?

Kill it yesterady.

> The Death Penalty?

Against.

> Gay Marriage?

As far as the state is concerned, homo- and hetero- relationships should be treated the same.

> Gay Adoption?

No reason not to let them apply for adoption.

> Hate Crimes?

It should be illegal to walk the streets with a megaphone and call out "kill the Jews!", if that's what you mean. But the current Swedish 'incitement' laws are too much.

> Education?

I'm much in favour of education. (WTH is this question supposed to mean?)

> The Environment?

Sure, it's out there. :p Assuming this about regulation to protect the environment, I'm broadly in favour. I hate the Greens as a political force, tho.

> Animal Testing?

In favour.

> AIDS?

What kind of question is this? What's your opinion of bubonic plague?

> School Vouchers?

Which are?

> School Prayer?

Teacher-led prayer on lessons or equivalent isn't acceptable.

> "One Nation, Under God"?

Amounts to establishment of an official religion, which is bad.

> Drug Legalization?

Some drugs should be legalized, some should remain illegal, and no doubt there's one or two out there that could use illegalization.

> Prostitution Legalization?

Make it legal. (Under current Swedish law, it's illegal to buy sex, but not to sell it. Go figure.)

> Legalized Gambling?

Legalize and tax. (Don't, as in Sweden, make it a state monopoly.)

> Age of Consent?

I think the Swedish AoC of 15 is about right.

> Premarital Sex?

Yes, please. :)

> Single Parenthood?

Well, it's generally better than putting the children in orphanages. There's reason to believe kids do best in harmonious traditional (mother-father-children) families, but humans being humans, not all children are gonna end up in such, and we've got to do the best of the situation, not blather on about how the world should be.

> School Uniforms?

Bad.

> Drinking Age of 21?

Proof positive of communism.

(In Sweden, it's at parents' discretion at home, 18 in bars and restaurants, and 20 to buy in stores. I don't really see why the later limit isn't 18 too.)

> Immigration?

Limited immigration is good. Opening the floodgates fully wouldn't be. Immigrants should be assimilated/integrated, not encouraged to form separate communities that don't interact with locals.

> The War on Terror?

Stupid slogan.

> The Country's Current Leadership?

USA's: Pretty bad.
Sweden's: Competent, but devoid of vision and too far left for my tastes.

> Voting?

I'm in favour of democracy, if that's what you mean.

> Saddam Hussein?

Run-of-the-mill tyrant, and yesterday's news.

> Osama Bin Laden?

Figurehead. Which is just another way to say that busting him would be very good PR.

> Euthanasia?

In favour.

> Assisted Suicide?

In favour.

> Suicide?

It's their life.

> Self-Mutilation?

Well, their body. Just don't ask me not to think they're freaks.

> Mental Illness?

What kind of opinion am I supposed to have about mental illness?

> Eating Disorders?

See previous answer.

> Addiction - A Choice or a Disease?

Neither. But most of the time, developing an addiction is the result of more-or-less bad choices.

> Three Strikes Law?

Some sympathy for the idea, but the Californian implementation seems crazy.

> Bush or Kerry?

Kerry

> Republican or Democrat?

Democrat, generally.

Voted for the Social Democrats in the last general election here, will probably vote for a rightist party next time round.

> Cheney or Edwards?

No real opinion.

> Rehabilitation or Imprisionment/Punishment?

Those are so not mutually exclusive.

> Marijuana - Legal or Illegal?

Legalize.

> Adoption or Abortion?

Both should be options.

> Life or Death?

Life (assuming we're talking about punishments).

> Gay Marriage or Civil Unions?

Civil Unions (for heteros too, if that could be arranged).

> Gay Marriage or Nothing?

Gay marriage

> Civil Unions or Nothing?

Civil Unions.

> Segregation or Intergration?

Of what?

> Is our economy really on the mend?

No.

> Do homosexuals deserve equal rights under the law?

Yes.

> Is banning gay marriage legalizing discrimination?

Yes.

> Do we have a right to be in Iraq?

No.

> Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons?

No.

> Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction?

In Iraq? No.

> Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership?

No.

> Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussien or Bin Laden?

bin Ladin. (What's Saddam supposed to do from his prison cell?)

> Who do you feel is the best leader for our country?

-

> Would you support a legalized draft?

I've got nothing against the draft in principle, but the current implementation is an unfair mess.

> What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?

I wouldn't know.

> Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own?

You should look for int'l support.

> Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?

Yes.

> Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?

In yours, yes. In mine, not really. Most discrimination is along cultural lines.

> Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country?

Yes. (Mine and yours.)

> Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?

What differentiates sexual and gender discrimination?

> Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country?

Yes.

> Is religious discrimination a problem in our country?

In yours, probably. In mine, hardly.

> Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?

Both.

> Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?

Natural resources are only of value if anyone uses them. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be regulations of how you may use them.

> Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy

Party's stance and policies. :p

> If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?

I'm sure there's room in the budget for a generous state pension for me.

Holy Kookamoley, this is like 47 separate threads all rolled into one!
We could call it the "Costco" thread. :)

Anyway, my opinions: neutral, undecided, oppose, oppose, semi-favor, oppose, oppose, oppose, favor, neutral, favor, don't care, undecided, opposed, I'm cool with it, MAJORLY OPPOSE, oppose, don't care, don't care, WOOHOO!, semi-oppose, semi-oppose, no problem with it, no problem with this one either, KILL ALL TERRORISTS, I'm cool with it, awesome, execute him, he's dead, neutral, creeps me out, creeps me out also, REALLY creeps me out, big problem that needs more research, don't care, disease, keep it, Bush, Republican, Cheney, both, illegalize it, yes, life, neither, nothing, nothing, yes, yes, no point, no, YES, unknown but don't care, yes, no, both of them, ME, no, France, screw international support, yes, it always will be, this always will be also, this always will be also, this always will be also, this always will be also, both, balance the two, stance and policy, and I would say this to Kofi Annan: "Screw you, you loser."

There, that should cover it. :)

Religion?

I believe that there is a God. I believe that God exists in all things.

Abortion?

I am against abortion, but oppose laws banning it.

Welfare?

I believe state welfare should be replaced by private charity.

Affirmative Action?

I am solid, against it.

The Death Penalty?

I am against it for no other reason than that I do not believe that every person sentenced to death is guilty. Nor do I believe that we will ever be able to be sure one-hundred percent.

Gay Marriage?

I support equal protection under the law. There is no reason any two people in this country should not be able to "marry".

Gay Adoption?

There are too many children without families to be picky.

Hate Crimes?

There should be no extra penalty for "hate" crimes.

Education?

Should be privated.

The Environment?

The environment is vital to our survival. Therefore it should be a top priority to preserve it.

Animal Testing?

What is neccessary, should be done. What is not, should not.

AIDS?

Should be combated domestically and ignored otherwise.

School Vouchers?

I do not support public education, period.

School Prayer?

As long as participation is optional and it does not interrupt the school day, sure. However, I am against public school.

"One Nation, Under God"?

That is the way it was written. Love it or leave it.

Drug Legalization?

Victimless crime. Legalize it.

Prostitution Legalization?

Victimless crime. Legalize it.

Legalized Gambling?

Victimless crime. Legalize it.

Age of Consent?

18 years old.

Not for me, but I have no problem with others doing so.

Single Parenthood?

I would not attempt it. Bad idea.

School Uniforms?

Public schools, no. Private institutions, whatever they want.

Drinking Age of 21?

Drop it to 18 years old.

Immigration?

As long as they immigrate legally, I don't mind.

The War on Terror?

We need to start fighting it. Bush is not doing so.

The Country's Current Leadership?

Horrible, but no worse than a Kerry Presidency and a Democratic Congress.

Voting?

18 years old.

Saddam Hussein?

Can't complain that he is unemployed.

Osama Bin Laden?

Sometimes I wonder if he has a point, but nonetheless, killing thousands of innocent people is wrong. He needs to be captured and put on trial.

Euthanasia?

In some cases, I would call it "mercy".

Assisted Suicide?

Legalize it.

Suicide?

Wasetful, unless incapacitated by illness or other disability.

Self-Mutilation?

A mental illness or chemical imbalance.

Mental Illness?

A defect of the brain or chemical imbalance.

Eating Disorders?

A mental illness or chemical imbalance.

Addiction - A Choice or a Disease?

A choice.

Three Strikes Law?

Ridiculous. Made simply to placate the ignorant masses.

Bush or Kerry?

Bush, if I absolutely must.

Republican or Democrat?

Democrat, if I absolutely must.

Cheney or Edwards?

John Edwards.

Rehabilitation or Imprisionment/Punishment?

Both, focusing on rehabilitation.

Marijuana - Legal or Illegal?

Legalize it.

Adoption or Abortion?

Whatever the Mother chooses.

Life or Death?

Life.

Gay Marriage or Civil Unions?

Whatever the couple chooses to refer to it as. The government should refer to all "marriage" as civil unions.

Gay Marriage or Nothing?

I would take what I could get if I was homosexual. It will be a stepping stone. Change rarely comes all at once.

Civil Unions or Nothing?

See above statement.

Segregation or Intergration?

Government should not intervene. If private citizens want to segregate, they should be allowed to.

Is our economy really on the mend?

No.

Do homosexuals deserve equal rights under the law?

Everybody does.

Is banning gay marriage legalizing discrimination?

Yes, but it is already legal.

Do we have a right to be in Iraq?

Yes.

Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons?

No.

Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction?

Yes.

Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership?

Yes.

Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussien or Bin Laden?

Osama Bin Laden

Who do you feel is the best leader for our country?

Myself or John McCain

Would you support a legalized draft?

If our country were under a massive and direct threat.

What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?

United States of America, our own country.

Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own?

We should do the right thing and hope that we have company.

Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?

Absolutely.

Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?

Intermittently, yes.

Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country?

See above.

Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?

See above.

Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country?

See above.

Is religious discrimination a problem in our country?

See above.

Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?

Both, but more peacemaking than force.

Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?

Natural resources.

Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy

Stances and policy.

If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?

Let's have a beer.

 longest first page of a thread I've ever read. I doubt anyone will take interest to MY list (since i'm not a well known or controversial poster), but here it is:

Religion? I'm an atheist

Abortion? Pro-choice, up to a certain point. I don't think, for example, that a woman should be allowed to have an abortion when the baby is just about ready, but if decided early enough, abortion is fine.

Welfare? I wish it was much harder to get, and I wish they could figure out a way to make people only buy necessities with it.

Affirmative Action? Against.

The Death Penalty? For, as long as there is DNA evidence. I wish they would speed up death-row though.

Gay Marriage? For 100%

Gay Adoption? For

Hate Crimes? Against

Education? make it less about self-esteem and more about accountability/academics/critical thinking ability.

The Environment? Protect it but do not impede human progress for it.

Animal Testing? against

AIDS? um... I hope they find a cure!

School Vouchers? Dunno what that is.

School Prayer? if they keep it to themselves, fine

"One Nation, Under God"? keep it, it would piss more people off then it would make happy to abolish it, and I doubt it instills christianity on people.

Drug Legalization? for it, except perhaps ultra-ilicit drugs that can kill in one or two uses.

Prostitution Legalization? for it, as long as it is made cleaner and regulated so it doesn't turn into an STD spawning station.

Legalized Gambling? For it.

Age of Consent? 18, under it they may consent but in most cases it would be do to coersion more then true willingness.

Premarital Sex? For it, becuase it feels great!

Single Parenthood? I wish it happened less because a mom+dad are important, but I see no way around it.

School Uniforms? for a strict dress code to promote learning and lessen sluttiness. The "individuality" through clothing thing is the most bogus idea I've ever heard.

Drinking Age of 21? move it to 18 at least

Immigration? legalized immigration is great.

The War on Terror? a good thing, as long as the war is against true terrorists. I think this may be a war best suited to be won through our policies, not our tanks.

The Country's Current Leadership? Don't like GWB, but liked Kerry less.

Voting? Pointless act, but I guess I understand the sense of civic duty it instills.

Saddam Hussein? Bad guy, glad he's out of power but it seems that Iraq is more conductive to terrorist activity now.

Osama Bin Laden? public enemy #1

Euthanasia? no opinion yet

Assisted Suicide? only in cases of terminal, painful illness, when mental stability is known.

Suicide? against

Self-Mutilation? stupid thing gothic people do to get attention and feel like they are poetic or deep or something. get a life.

Mental Illness? some are invented as an excuse, but most are real.

Eating Disorders? byproduct of the media image of beauty. Mostly just because of the nature of girls. Girls are really all about material things and feeling wanted.

Addiction - A Choice or a Disease? Choice that becomes a disease

Three Strikes Law? For it, when it's a gross felony.

You Choose...

Bush or Kerry? Bush

Republican or Democrat? Libertarian, but realistically republican.

Cheney or Edwards? Cheney

Rehabilitation or Imprisionment/Punishment? Rehabilitation, then punishment if that doesn't work.

Marijuana - Legal or Illegal? illegal

Adoption or Abortion? adoption

Life or Death? life

Gay Marriage or Civil Unions? gay marriage

Gay Marriage or Nothing? gay marriage

Civil Unions or Nothing? civil unions (if there is no alternative)

Segregation or Intergration? racial integration, but I think schools should be segregated by intelligence potential early on.

Yes Or No... Yes

Is our economy really on the mend? yes

Do homosexuals deserve equal rights under the law? yes

Is banning gay marriage legalizing discrimination? yes

Do we have a right to be in Iraq? yes

Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons? no

Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction? somewhere, yes. iraq, no.

Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership? no

Questions

Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussien or Bin Laden? Bin Laden, seeing as how hussein is in a jail cell.

Who do you feel is the best leader for our country? john mccain

Would you support a legalized draft? no

What country is the biggest threat to our way of life? n. korea or iran

Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own? continue on our own.

Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support? yea

Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country? yes

Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country? yes

Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?yes

Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country? yes

Is religious discrimination a problem in our country? yes

Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us? both

Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better? industrys in most cases.

Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy? stance and policy, unless it is a minor office that I don't have tiem to study, in which case party.

If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?
I'd probably attack his stance on gay marriage or education... not sure which.

John HSOG said:
AIDS?

Should be combated domestically and ignored otherwise.
I don't know about the US situation, but for a country like mine that isn't a sensible option; most Swedes that get infected get so outside of Sweden's borders.

come on, this is a thread where people can just post their opinions, lets not turn it into a debate thread

The Last Conformist said:
I don't know about the US situation, but for a country like mine that isn't a sensible option; most Swedes that get infected get so outside of Sweden's borders.

I did not mean to sound insensitive, it is just that I feel that sending taxpayer money abroad is wasteful and accomplishes nothing. We need to maximize awareness, at home, and develop a vaccine and/or cure. That is what I feel will best serve humanity.

Ohh, sounds like a good waste of time!

> Religion?

I have not grown up in a real religious family, but I have starting to learn and appreciAte more about Christianity. My biggest problem with Christainity is that I feel that almost every version of the bible has been deliberately mis-interpreted, and are all mostly incorrect. As for religion in general, I believe it is a good thing, as it gives people something positive to believe in, so long as people don't fight each other about it.

> Abortion?

This issue baffles me at times, here in Canada, it's pro-Choice, and has been that way for a long time. I am definitely pro-Choice, I believe that the fetus becomes a human when the cord is cut, before that point, the fetus is an extension of the mother's body, like an arm or a leg, and the mother can do as she feels to it.

> Welfare?

If a person has fallen on hard times, addicted to a substance, lost their job, or has a different type of problem, then I believe that the Government should step in and help them to their feet, dust them off, get them un-addicted, and give them some money, and a warm dry place to sleep until they can get a job, house, apartment, whatever. If they have a disability, and cannot work, then I believe that the Government, or, preferably the person's parents, receiving help from the Government, shoudl help care for the person, and treat their ailment, if possible.

> Affirmative Action?

I have no real idea what this is, something about making College cheaper for people of African descent in the USA. I am not going to comment upon it, as I do not know enough about it.

> The Death Penalty?

Totally against this. I believe that no crime, no matter how gruesome, deserves death. "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth just leaves everybody blind and toothless". That summarizes my viewpoint on this issue. Besides, it is cheaper to keep people in jail for life, rather then kill them, after all the appeals that occur.

> Gay Marriage?

Since I am bisexual, I believe that Homosexuals should be allowed to marry, and that Marriage should be between 2 consenting adults, to the exclusion of all others. I believe that the Bible does not say that Homosexuals cannot marry, it has just been deliberately mal-interpreted to read as such. Personally, I don't think i would ever get married, either to a guy or a girl, but that might change.

> Gay Adoption?

To me, this is a stupid issue. Of course Homosexual people should be allowed to marry, and adopt kids. The only thing that probably prevents it is homophobes, who are convinced that homosexuality is a disease, or something, and cannot accept the fact that it has been systematically proven that Homosexuality is genetic, and is natural.

> Hate Crimes?

There is a very fine line between Hate Crimes, and Freedom of Speech. I believe if someone is deliberately inciting violence in a systematic manner against a certain person or group of people, then that is a Hate Crime, and they should be jailed. But that must not infringe upon people's rights to express their feelings about certain topics. There is a very fine line, I generally stay away from this topic, I have trouble with this very fine line, and deciding what is freedom of speech, and what is a hate crime.

> Education?

Fundamental Human Right. Everybody should be guaranteed a level of education at least equivalent to Grade 12. No ands, ifs, or buts. Preferably, everybody would at least get a Bachelor of something in High Education, but that does not always happen. Education at all levels should be available to everyone, regardless of income.

> The Environment?

This is an issue that I am more laissez faire about. As long as we preserve some areas of the country for future generations, then I believe everything will be fine. Generally, people realize that they are harming the environment, and stop the harmful activity. Like i said, I am not too concerned about this. Mother nature can generally fix what we do.

> Animal Testing?

If it is medical, and benefits humans, like a new type of Cancer Medicine being tested on Lab Rats, then i think its fine. In fact, as long as the animals are specifically produced to have things tested on them, like Rats, then I think its fine. But, testing products on animals not specifically bred for the purpose is wrong.

> AIDS?

Well, use a condom. This is a nasty virus, it kills millions, use a condom, and other means of protection, and everything is fine. If you are sexually active, get yourself checked every 6 months or so.

> School Vouchers?

School what? I have no idea what this is, never heard of it before. It might be an American thing, not sure though.

> School Prayer?

I am against schools having everybody recite the same meaningless prayer every day. I would support, however, a half hour in which every kid can pray to whatever religion they want. People must understand that we are no longer one religion, that many different religions exist, and forcing everybody to say the lord's Prayer is like a slap in the face if you are Muslim, etc. Personally, I have never had to pray in school, but this sounds like something, again, that you might find in the USA.

> "One Nation, Under God"?

Part of the American Anthem. I assume that there is probably a debate about this. I believe that it should be removed, as not everybody is Christian, and all religions must be respected. The USA, and most modern Democracies, are supposed to be Secular, then they should not include stuff like this in their national Anthems.

> Drug Legalization?

I am for it, oddly enough. Obviously the War on Drugs is a total failure. You can never get everybody to stop using drugs. That is impposible, and hopelessly idealistic. If we cannot make Drugs illegal, then lets legalize, but regulate, then. It would help the economy, less spending on police, police could focus on worse crimes, like rape, murder, etc. The court would not be so bogged down with petty offenses like smoking, etc. Our jails would not be as crowded. Just legalize it, but ensure taht everybody who consumes them does so in a facility meant for that, like the Drug Center in Vancouver, and have the Government be the only dealer allowed. So, basically, the Government would give people liscenses to grow marijuana, cocaine, etc., then the Government would ensure its quality, and sell it. Its a win-win sitaution. At the same time, we could invest more in programs to get people off these substances, and ensure that the needles are clean, reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS. like i said, win-win. Fighting a war over it only makes the Government lose, and those poor people in 3rd world countries producing the cocaine, etc. suffer.

> Prostitution Legalization?

Of course this should be legal, like in the Netherlands. You legalize it, then regulate it, giving all prostitutes a certificate, ensure that they are not getting abused while on the job, that condoms are being used, etc. The current system does not work.

> Legalized Gambling?

Gambling should be legal, but programs in place to help those addicted and problem gamblers.

> Age of Consent?

18. 21 is too old. At age 18, you generally are old enough to take care of yourself.

> Premarital Sex?

I see nothing wrong with this, so long as it is consensual.

> Single Parenthood?

As long as the Parent earns enough to take care of the child, this should be fine. If the parents cannot, the child should not be forced to suffer, the child should be put up for adoption, or to foster parents.

> School Uniforms?

Probably a good idea, it prepares kids for their future career, but it does take away the creativeness that goes into some kids clothes. I don't have a real opinion on this, other then it does take away some of that Freedom of Expression.

> Drinking Age of 21?

To old. 18 should be the age. Having a drinking age that old just makes kids start drinking illegaly at younger ages, like 18, 19, etc.

> Immigration?

If somebody has a legitimate reason to move to a country, then they should be permitted to do so, provided they are not a terrorist, has a useful trade, and can support themselve, so they don't have to rely on Welfare.

> The War on Terror?

America was attacked, but not just America, the whole Western World, and our ideals of Freedom, Democracy, and Justice was attacked, so we must respond. But, this should not be a war, it should include teaching people to understand one another. We should not go out there guns blazing, we should encourage the ideals that we believe in through other means, and change our foreign policies. We should also look at what causes extremism, which is the believe that there is no way out of the fire poverty that many countries that have terrorists live in, and that the only way out is to go to Paradise or Heaven as a Martyr. Take away the conditions for terrorism, and we take away terrorists.

> The Country's Current Leadership?

I like Paul Martin, I support him, and i think he is a good leader. I did not vote for him, because i do not like the Liberal MP in my riding (I voted Green!), but I like Paul.

> Voting?

Well, its a Fundamental Right, and, in a Democracy, it happens to decide leadership, etc. Everybody above 18 should be allowed to vote, and anybody unduly trying to influence the election, or change the result, should be punished.

> Saddam Hussein?

He was a bad person, but a blusterer, not a threat. He never had the ability to strike at America, and he never had nukes, he just blustered. He is gone, which is probably a good things, but what he has been replaced with is worse, IMO. Anarchy and Chaos is always worse then a leader, no matter how much of a tyrant the leader is.

> -Osama Bin Laden?

Terrorist, but having him captured and killed might not be the best of things. Again, i do not believe in the Death Penalty, and I do not believe that he should be killed, no matter what he did. He is a mis-informed person, who has some radical beliefs. He ordered a terrorist attack, one of the worst ever, but we should try to learn what led him to do such a thing, and fix the problem, with peaceful means, not war.

> Euthanasia?

Should be allowed. But, only if the person is mentally capable of understanding what is to happen to them, and after a 1-2 month waiting period where the person can change their mind. But this should be available to everyone at or above the Age of Majority, which should be 18.

> Assisted Suicide?

Provided this is Euthanasia but where the person needs help to do it, then see above.

> Suicide?

This should be unnecessary, if you wanna kill yourself, you should be able to do so with Euthansia.

> Self-Mutilation?

Your body. I am not going to tell you what you can and cannot do.

> Mental Illness?

If it can be treated, treat it, otherwise, care for the person as you can best do.

> Eating Disorders?

Try some form of therapy. If not that, then maybe a pill to try and cure the disorder.

> Addiction - A Choice or a Disease?

It is a choice until you must take your drug to survive, and function normally, then it is a disease.

> Three Strikes Law?

Never heard of this. Must be an American thing.

You Choose...

> Bush or Kerry?

As a Canadian - Bush, because he is a Free-Trader, more so then kerry, which is better for Canada. Besides, a Kerry Presidency with a Republican-controlled House and Senate would be scary.
As an American - Kerry. i would hate Bush's Social Values as an American.

> Republican or Democrat?

As a Canadian - Whatever is better for Canada. Preferably, the Free-Trader.
As an American - Generally, Democract

> Cheney or Edwards?

I do not know enough about these 2 men, but, as a Canadian, the Free-Trader, as an American, the most lef-tleaning, and liberal socially.

> Rehabilitation or Imprisionment/Punishment?

Rehabilitiation, if possible.

> Marijuana - Legal or Illegal?

As I say with all other drugs, legal, but regulated.

> Adoption or Abortion?

Should be the choice of the mother and father.

> Life or Death?

Life, preferably, unless the person chooses otherwise.

> Gay Marriage or Civil Unions?

As i said above, Marriage.

> Gay Marriage or Nothing?

I don't fully understand this, but Marriage, i will go with.

> Civil Unions or Nothing?

Civil Unions.

> Segregation or Intergration?

Huh? Yet another American thing i don't understand.

Yes Or No...

> Is our economy really on the mend?

I think not, I think that the American economy is fundamentally flawed, and needs fundamental changes.

> Do homosexuals deserve equal rights under the law?

Absurd question, of course they do. To think otherwise is stupid, discriminatory.

> Is banning gay marriage legalizing discrimination?

Yes.

> Do we have a right to be in Iraq?

I think you guys are fighting this the wrong way, you should be removing the situation that creates extremists, not the Government that supports them. Legally, i think the whole thing is illegal, but i support the American troops over there, just not why they are over there.

> Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons?

No.

> Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction?

Of course, many nations have them, Nukes, Biological, and Chemcical Weapons. This is another absurd question.

> Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership?

No. Nobody could have predicted it. Yes, they could have listened to their FBI data more, but still, with the intelligence network set up at the time, nobody could have predicted it. Nowadays, we could, but not back then. It had nothing to do with leadership, it had all to do with your intelligence Network.

Questions

> Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussien or Bin Laden?

Bin Laden. He had, and has, the ability to strike at America, indeed, any country. Saddam never had that.

> Who do you feel is the best leader for our country?

Paul Martin is doing a good job, no reason why he should stop.

> Would you support a legalized draft?

No.

> What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?

Not a country, but conditions which brew extremism that I already mentioned, poverty, etc.

> Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own?

It depends on what the objective is. If it is for Iraq, then yes.

> Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?

Yes.

> Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?

In Canada, no.

> Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country?

In Canada, partly, but it has been mostly fixed, i think.

> Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?

Thanks to the Liberals, no.

> Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country?

No, i do not believe so.

> Is religious discrimination a problem in our country?

No, I do not believe so.

> Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?

Peacemaking efforts, always.

> Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?

Whatever is better for our economy, and the long-term survival of our resource.

> Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy

Badly worded question, please rephrase.

> If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?

Good job, keep it up, Paul. But, don't forget about us in the West, and don't pander too much to Quebec.

yes

Do we have a right to be in Iraq?
no

Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons?

Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction?
I thought there were some in 2002. But now...
Anyway the war is wrong in both cases.

Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership?
yes

Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussien or Bin Laden?
Bin Laden.
Saddam was no threat to the US or Europe and Bin Laden is not a threat to the existence of the US or the EU.

Who do you feel is the best leader for our country?
US: Certainly not Bush.
Germany: Well, if I had to pick one from our possible chancellors, I'd still go with Schröder.

Would you support a legalized draft?
No. In fact, I'm in favor of getting rid of it in Germany. I already made my alternative service.

What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?
*yawn* No threat.

Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own?
work to get international support.

Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?
Sure. But democracy has the right to defend itself

Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?
yes

Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country?
yes

Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?
yes

Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country?
yes

Is religious discrimination a problem in our country?
yes

Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?
no

Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?
You need a balance.

Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy
according to party

If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?
They should take care of the public and not of their personal interests.

Religion?
I'm currently agnostic. I don't think it's wrong to have a religion, and I don't think there should be a state religion, but I definitely disagree with the organized religions existing today. Oftentimes, their adherents are merely brainwashed into believing what the religion says, rather than coming to the conclusion that the religion is correct.

Abortion?
It should be allowed as long as the fetus is not sentient. My understanding was that the fetus could in no way be described as sentient until the 3rd trimester. Most abortions (by far) take place in the first two trimesters. If widespread access to abortion is given, I imagine that almost all would take place in the first trimester. I would also allow 2nd trimester abortions, but 3rd trimester abortions should be banned unless the mother's health is at risk.

Welfare?
It should be given out, but recipients should not live off of it; they should also prove that they are actively seeking a job.

Affirmative Action?
Undecided. On one hand, discrimination of any kind is sub-optimal. However, there is definitely still racism existing in the U.S., and AA could be an effect counter to discriminatory hiring practices.

The Death Penalty?
Also undecided. I have no qualms of killing a criminal who admitted to his crime and cannot exist in society, but there is rarely definite proof in court cases. Moreover, I have not decided whether execution of insane murderers would be ethical or desirable.

Gay Marriage?
As much as I am disgusted by homosexuality, gays should be allowed to marry.

Gay Adoption?
See above.

Hate Crimes?
Though criminals shouldn't be punished more harshly simply because the victim was a minority, they should be punished more harshly if they specifically.

Education?
For, of course.

The Environment?
I do not think that we should go out of our way to save every species, but we, as humans, should definitely try to protect the environment. What's the point of modern technology if, suddenly, you have no food?

Animal Testing?
For. There is no viable alternative, and they are not sentient, anyway.

AIDS?
Against, of course.

School Vouchers?
I don't know much about them, but my gut feeling is that it's like communism: works in theory, but not in practice.

School Prayer?
Both for and against. It should not be state mandated or required, but if an individual wants to pray, by all means, let him.

"One Nation, Under God"?
Although it is not important, it should be removed as it is an example of an infringement on the separation of church and state, despite it's trivialness.

Drug Legalization?
For. I am against drugs, but legalization and taxation of "soft" drugs is a viable way to decrease usage (since addicts are unproductive). Let people do what they want to their bodies.

Prostitution Legalization?
Undecided, but my opinion on drug legalization holds somewhat.

Legalized Gambling?
Legalize and tax. I don't care if people gamble. I do it myself from time to time (for fun with small money, of course).

Age of Consent?
Probably 14 or 15 with, as Shadylookin proposed, a maximum of 3 years between the ages of the partners (until 18).

Premarital Sex?
For. Let people do what they want.

Single Parenthood?
Obviously, I am against it, but it will necessarily occur.

School Uniforms?
Basically, they are wasteful, but they do encourage discipline. I do not think that public schools should require them, but private ones can do what they want.

Drinking Age of 21?
Against. Drinking should be decided by the family at home (maturity doesn't suddenly appear at a magic age). In public, the age should be 18, since the individual is already an adult.

Immigration?
Productive immigrants should be accepted, along with refugees.

The War on Terror?
It's merely a catch phrase for a badly-executed "purge" of terrorism. It has a good goal, but it is unattainable.

The Country's Current Leadership?
Horrible. Enough has been said by others on this subject.

Voting?
For, but only by the educated (on the issues, not necessarily educated in general). Of course, this requires a very advanced educational system as a prerequisite.

Saddam Hussein?
He was harmless. He's just a scapegoat created by the Bush administration, persecuted as putative retribution for 9/11.

Osama Bin Laden?
By himself, he's not that dangerous. Al-Qaeda is a cell-based organization.

Euthanasia?
It should be legal. Again, let people do what they want. Some people would prefer death over a painful life. I am not among them, but, then again, I could change my mind once confronted with the pain.

Assisted Suicide?
See above.

Suicide?
See above. Let people do what they choose with their bodies.

Self-Mutilation?
See above.

Mental Illness?
Against. They should be treated if possible. If not, then they should be kept away from society.

Eating Disorders?
A man-made creation. People are simply making up "diseases" for their own lack of will. I have no pity for them.

Addiction - A Choice or a Disease?
Both, but not at once. The individual choose to not resist the temptation of the addictive product and choose to continue consuming it. The addiction itself, however, is obviously a "disease," for lack of a better term.

Three Strikes Law?
Against. It is too rigid. Three carjackings does not necessarily mean that I am incapable of being re-educated (no, not that kind of re-education, Perfection ;)), rehabilitated, and re-absorbed by society.

You Choose...
Bush or Kerry?
Kerry. Neither is ideal, though.

Republican or Democrat?
More Democrat. I do not actually know the exact positions of each party. Republicans were supposedly fiscally conservative (which I am), but we all know that to be untrue. I am definitely socially liberal. When it comes to economics, I go with what works, whether or not it is deemed "conservative" or "liberal" by society.

Cheney or Edwards?
Edwards without a doubt. As an African, how could I support someone who voted against a Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday?

Rehabilitation or Imprisionment/Punishment?
Both, I guess. Criminals should be rehabilitated when possible (assuming certain drugs are no longer illegal and punishable offenses); however, they should still be punished/imprisoned for their offenses. The rehabilitation should occur either directly after the punishment, or during the incarceration.

Marijuana - Legal or Illegal?
Legal, for reasons explicated earlier.

Adoption or Abortion?
Neither. I would prefer a regular family. Personally, I would choose abortion within the first trimester as long as the woman was in accordance. From a societal standpoint, abortion may be better as well, as I heard earlier that 60-80% of criminals were at one point in the adoption/foster system.

Life or Death?
Concerning what? I'm here typing, so I obviously prefer life.

Gay Marriage or Civil Unions?
As long as the rights and benefits (and drawbacks, I might add. There is a marriage tax) are the same, the name doesn't matter.

Did we enter Iraq for the right reasons?
No, there was never a threat from weapons of mass destruction.

Do you think there are weapons of mass destruction?
Not in Iraq. Obviously other nations possess them.

Do you feel 9/11 could have been prevented by better leadership?
Perhaps, though most likely not. Clinton and Gore had a task force ready to attack Bin Laden in late 2000 that was postponed so that Bush and his cronies could decide what to do (and they choose to do nothing). Most likely, that would have done nothing to prevent 9/11, since Al-Qaeda is cell based. It could have had some effect though. Maybe we'd be saying 9/27? Either way, better leadership might have been able to prevent a terrorist attack with the information provided by various intelligence briefings, but it is unlikely.

Questions
Who do you think is the bigger threat - Hussein or Bin Laden?

Bin Laden is not currently incarcerated. Moreover, Hussein was never a threat to the U.S.

Who do you feel is the best leader for our country?
U.S. - I have no idea, but not who's in power right now.
Ethiopia - Me. Definitely not who's in power right now. :D

Would you support a legalized draft?
No. All-volunteer militaries are more effective, and there is no need for the draft. Ideally, a draft would never be imposed, since it infringes on basic rights, but, in some cases, it is necessary to protect the country/strategic interests.

What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?
Whose way of life? I do not believe the EU is as big a threat to the U.S. as so many make it out to be. Ethiopia's way of life is most threatened by either the antagonistic Arab enemies we have, or a lack of foreign aid, though I hope to change that.

Should we work to get international support, or continue on our own?
Two heads are better than one.

Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?
Yes, but there is a limit to the freedom of speech. You should not be able to cry "wolf" with malicious or deceptive intent. Furthermore, you should not be able to walk down the streets encouraging violence.

Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?
Yes. Though it is not as big as it was a quarter of a century ago, it is very much a problem.

Is gender discrimination still a problem in our country?
See above.

Is sexual discrimination a problem in our country?
See above. @Shadylookin: Beatings of homosexuals do still occur.

Is ethnic discrimination a problem in our country?
See above.

Is religious discrimination a problem in our country?
Probably. I would not think to the degree that the aforementioned problems are, but there is indubitably conflict between fanatic members of all religions.

Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?
It depends. In certain cases, they obviously are required (e.g., WWII).

Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?
What do you mean? Both should be protected. However, it should be noted that industries can be replaced and replenished, whereas many natural resources cannot be.

Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy
According to the politician's stances and policy, but if he is a member of a certain party, I am assured of his position on certain issues. Therefore, it is safe for me to simply vote by party, though I do not. Actually, this should all be in the conditional, since I am not yet 18.

If you could say one thing to our current leader, what would it be?
How can people be so blind as to not see how stupid you are?

also

You are really hurting the country.

This applies to both Meles Zenawi and George W. Bush.

Alot here, I'll keep it short.

Religion?
I am more focused on god; religion is merely a social construct to organize people who believe similar things. It's like political parties.

Abortion?
It's going to happen, keep it safe.

Welfare?
Need some.

Affirmative Action?
Marginal value

The Death Penalty?
for it

Gay Marriage?
Yes

Gay Adoption?
yes

Hate Crimes?
Treat like base crime

Education?
Best use of government dollars

The Environment?
A holding action will be the best we can do.

Animal Testing?
Use prisoners instead (lifers & death row)

AIDS?
I suggest you take precautions

School Vouchers?
Sure

School Prayer?
Against it in public schools

"One Nation, Under God"?
Just fine

Drug Legalization?
We obviously cannot stop use, so tax it.

Prostitution Legalization?
keep them clean

Legalized Gambling?
Restricted operators (for example in NM only Indian Tribes can own casinos.)

Age of Consent?
too complicated for a short answer

Premarital Sex?
It's goig to happen, better each your kids.

Single Parenthood?
It's going to happen, educate teenagers on sex and marriage

School Uniforms?
Yes for all, it will improve performance

Drinking Age of 21?
yes

Drivers license
Only with a HS diploma

Immigration?
Cannot stop it, better have a plan to deal with it.

Voting?
The more the better, better educate the people. Ban TV ads, and limit spending to government dole.

Saddam Hussein?
No longer an issue; give him to the kurds.

Osama Bin Laden?
Bring him to NY in chains

Euthanasia?
personal choice

Assisted Suicide?
personal choice

Suicide?
Not a good idea

Self-Mutilation?
Stupid

Mental Illness?
We have too much of it, but I think its here to stay.

Eating Disorders?
See above, blame it on the media and marketing

Addiction - A Choice or a Disease?
85% genetic driven, If not one drug, they will choose another

Three Strikes Law?
In general I'm for it

You Choose...

Until the next downturn

Would you support a legalized draft?
No

What country is the biggest threat to our way of life?
China

Does freedom of speech include ideas that you do not support?
yes

Is racial discrimination still a problem in our country?
Along with many other equally important discriminations, but they are all improving.

Do you believe force, or peacemaking efforts, are needed to protect us?
both

Protecting natural resources or industrys that use them - which is better?
industries that protect us and themselves (slow to change, but we will get there when the waters rise.)

Do vote according to party or according to politician's stances and policy
