I'm reaching out to all the Europeans.

I'm curious about how "youth" discounts work while traveling. I am making preliminary plans to travel through Europe (possibly a week out of Paris, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt, whichever airport/airline gets me to Addis Ababa the cheapest). And I am wondering if youth discounts can be used for purchasing airplane tickets. I know "youths" up to 25 get discounts on things for Eurorail passes, but what about airfare?

Hostels in Sweden give discounts to "under (or equal to, dunno) 25". I'm not sure about other countries.

While I was a student in France there was an organisation called OTU Voyages in the local student centre (CROUS) where you could buy discounted tickets. I can't remember if you had to be a registered student or just under 25. ISIC International Student something something would be a good place to start, as you may need to register before you leave home.

I've never heard of persons under 25 receiving discount on airplanes. It's true that on most public transportation services people under 18/25 receive a discount. You could however check all the airlines that are flying to Bole International Airport and see if one of the airlines has an discount for this specific flight.

You will get reduced prices if you're under 25 on the French railway system. Not too sure about air tickets, though.

BUT if you plan to stay in a small area (such as a Paris-Amsterdam-Frankfurt triangle), I would go with the train. Much less expensive, and not that longer.

You can get a discount with ISIC (Int. Student ID Card), but this is meant mosty for museums, cultural stuff, transportation etc.

It's the youth in Asia you need to watch out for, really.

Where is the place strangers have to be wary of because the youths attack in mobs? A bunch of 12 year olds will run up on any stranger in a suit and steal everything he or she has.

*blink blink* How bizarre. We give the discounts over here for seniors, not young adults.

I think I'm gonna be out of luck on my scheming.

Air France gives discounts up to 24 :(

KLM has no such discounts.

What I think I might end up doing is just simply take a direct flight from Dulles to Bole.

Airfare to Europe out of JFK isn't too bad. 600 American. But, Christ, airfare from Europe to Addis has just gone through the roof. It's almost not worth it...

I do still want to utilize the three country Eurail pass and hit Benelux and two other countries to exploit it to its fullest extent and see five European nations for the price of three.

ROFL, gotta love it when the welfare state works to your advantage. Then its not so bad, is it? Had no idea you were a welfare queen!

So much for rugged individualism and the open market.

As long as the French government is giving out free pie, why not grab a piece? ;) I would. Doesn't mean I'd support my government spending my money that way, but if other governments are going to, then you might as well get what you can.
