Zohran Mamdani

The Tweets! The Tweets are resurfacing!

In one of his first official acts as mayor, Zohran Mamdani announced that he was reviving the Office to Protect Tenants and appointed Cea Weaver, a prominent tenants-rights advocate and member of his transition team as its new director.

But Weaver has come under fire in recent days after years-old social-media posts resurfaced, including a tweet in which the longtime tenants organizer called homeownership a “weapon of white supremacy.”

On Sunday, the New York Post reported on several tweets from Weaver’s now-defunct X account, highlighting a 2018 post that read, “Seize private property!” In another deleted tweet from 2019, Weaver wrote, “Private property including and kind of ESPECIALLY homeownership is a weapon of white supremacy masquerading as ‘wealth building’ public policy.” UnHerd has additionally reported on similar posts Weaver published on Facebook, including one from 2017: “If you don’t believe in the government’s sacred right to seize private property ITS OVER.”

This is why you shouldn't use Twitter.

Even years ago.

Makes one wonder about elected officials intelligence.

5D crypto-capitalist Monopoly play by appointing someone so incompetent to the position that they couldn’t possibly have any effect on public policy.

Edit: 5 years ago she got her name withdrawn from some job for the city for these same posts, so the plot thickens. Mamdani :: secret right-wing capitalist?

Conservatives: people shouldn't be cancelled for things that happened a long time ago.

Also conservatives: oh look, someone remotely left-leaning. Better cancel them!

Tribalism 101 in full force, I see.

I guess this could be one way of returning a political favor.

What gets me isn't her communism (but that fruit hangs so low, why even bother?); it's that Cea Weaver advocates for ceasing private property for the city to operate which is just blatantly unconstitutional. I mean, I'm sure there are loads of people who would like to see that, but that won't make it any more possible. And so her now being official means, well, those old posts got to go!

Eminent Domain is already a thing.

@amadeus and Klaus Hergersheimer idk dawg do you guys think that excluding black people from federal policies subsidizing homeownership was, like, not racist?
It was racist.

Eminent Domain is already a thing.
The scope in which it is intended to be employed is far narrower than a Leninist “take it all” approach, and the Constitution explicitly states that fair compensation must be paid.

Do you actually believe she or Mamdani would actually engage in the former? Or do you acknowledge that this is:

The problem is Cea Weaver didn't mention using eminent domain, so I can't argue over what she could've/would've said. But what she's more accurately describing is akin to theft: expropriating land without paying for it. Maybe she just doesn't know the difference, but I'm not betting on it...

I'd also like to know how she believes this will actually be a net gain for the city because if the city runs a property then they can't collect taxes on it. Unless the end goal is effectively just more public housing.

No to both questions. Mamdani hasn’t demonstrated anything like that so I don’t believe so.

What Gorbles said isn’t relevant to me because other people don’t speak for me.

I have other posts on record as stating that my position on cancel culture is: whatever, what’s for dinner?

Moderator Action: Back to the topic and stop talking about other posters.

So, do you believe she and Mamdani intend to govern along those lines?
