Victor von Doom was created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel comics. Doom is one of the most recognizable and popular supervillains in the Marvel Universe, and a longtime antagonist for the Fantastic Four. Born in the nation of Latveria in eastern Europe, Victor was orphaned at a young age. He had a passion for science as well as the magical arts, and combining his own talents with the help of a young scientist named Reed Richards, he created a machine that would allow him to speak to his dead mother. His calculations were inaccurate, and the machine exploded, leaving Doom horribly disfigured. He then traveled the world until a group of Tibetan monks taught him their ways. He forged a suit of armor, complete with a mask to hide his scarred face, and returned to Latveria. With his advanced science and super-powered armor, he overthrew the government and established himself as ruler of the nation. Blaming Richards for his scarring, he now uses the country's resources to destroy the man and everything he loves.
