Khan Noonien Singh is a character from the Star Trek universe. Played by the late Ricardo Montalban, the character was introduced in the original Star Trek episode "Space Seed", and reappeared as the villain in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Khan is a Sikh, genetically enhanced to be stronger and smarter than normal humans. He along with a group of other genetic augments overthrew several governments in central and western Asia during the early 1990's. In a conflict known as The Eugenics Wars, Khan and the other augments were deposed, but escaped Earth, cryogenically frozen in the primitive spacecraft Botany Bay. The ship was discovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise in 2267. Khan attempted to capture the ship, but failed. He was deposed on Ceti Alpha V to live out his existence with the other augments and build a society. But the lush planet he was left on was turned barren thanks to an interplanetary disaster. Blaming the captain of the Enterprise for his misery, Khan swore revenge. He escaped the planet and nearly succeeded in his plan, but ended up killing himself in a gamble to destroy the Enterprise.
