Stephen F. Austin is remembered as the Father of Texas. He was a key figure in the mass immigration of Americans into Texas (then a part of Mexico). He was later a key player in the Texas Revolution, the Republic of Texas, and finally the state of Texas. The capital city of Texas is named for him as is Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
