Széchenyi was a hungarian aristocrat. He started a military career at first and this ways even fought against Napoleon. Later he changed his mind and left the army. He went on tours through europe to get ideas how to improve on Hungaries situation. Unlike Kossuth, who wanted a completely independent Hungary with no excuses and at al cost, Széchenyi wanted to renew Hungary from the inner and lead it to autonomy with peaceful methods. He started investing in infrastructure and education. To his disadvantage, Kossuth began to win importance which then lead to the revolution of 1848/49. During this time, he broke down and was brought to a mental home. Even from there, he tried to influence Hungaries fade with ccritical writings. To avoid that he would be brought to a public lunatic asylum as revenge for his writings, he commited suicide. Kossuth, maybe his biggest concurrent ever, later called him "the greatest Hungarian".
