BULAN
I proudly present Bulan, leader of the Khazars. I'll be using him in upcoming my Khazaria Civ of the Week. Anyhow, I don't think he's as impressive as my previous Khosrau LH, but he's still pretty nifty still. As always, feel free to use him as another leader - he could do pretty well as a generic nomadic leader, or even as a Sassanid or early medieval Persian leader (with a background change, of course). A button has been included for your convenience, as well as two alternative backgrounds.
Background information: Bulan was a leader of the Khazars around the 700s or 800s. It is not known what position of power he held within the Khazar Empire - whether he was ruler of all the Khazars, a powerful sub-chieftain, or simply a great general. He is generally considered to have been the Khazar leader to have converted himself and many of the Khazars to Judaism. However, even though this fact is generally accepted, there are conflicting accounts about how this came to be (whether his Jewish wife played a role, the Jewish scholars that lived in the Empire, or merchants who visited). A few even question whether it was Bulan who was responsible for the Khazars' conversion to Judaism. Regardless, Bulan was considered a great administrator and general. He is noted for having conducted several campaigns against the Arabs to the south.
