This is Rise of Empires 3.5, the latest and greatest version of Rise of Empires. It's a stand-alone mod, you don't need any previous version.
WHAT IS RISE OF EMPIRES?
Rise of Empires is an expansion pack for Beyond the Sword 3.5 with new hero units, new civs, new leaders, wonders, traits, changes to civics, Inquisitions, expanded future era, ethnically diverse artstyles and better terrain. It's fun, trust me.
WHAT'S NEW?
Well, since RoE 3.1 we've had a patch that fixed a few bugs and rebalanced some things. That's included. We also now have culture forts, thanks to Jeckel and Padjur, in that forts will give create a unit of culture outside your borders. If you build on a resource and connect it to your civilization, you'll be able to use it without sending a settler out there.
RoE also has enslavement, where if you are running Slavery you can enslave land units, with a 25 percent chance of getting a worker after combat.
All Great People are now ethnically arstyled as well (see screenshot below).
There's a new hero, the Quinquireme.
Finally, there are several more minor fixes. For example, you can now see which heroes upgrade and which heroes do not on the Civpedia screen. The top are the new ancient European Units, below are the Ancient Middle East units.
HOW DO I INSTALL IT?
Unzip the folder "Rise of Empires 3.5" using Winzip or Winrar (they're free) into the Mods folder in Beyond the Sword. Then to play, either click the shortcut provided in the Rise of Empires 3.5 Folder, or if that doesn't work (for the reason mentioned above) just go in to BTS and click "Advanced", then "Load a Mod." It should be there.
Please note that games started in 3.1 or earlier versions are not compatible with 3.5!
