    Non-bulbing on Diety

@vranasm Don't think its necessary to bulb phil and trade. You can still research it yourself and have pseudo monopoly, because the AI is reluctant to trade. Maybe you have to write off either lib or taj mahal, but that shouldn't matter too much. You might as well wage war much earlier like Obs...

    Non-bulbing on Diety

In my game most of the time the GPr will be the first GP in the game at all. Way before Alpha and Mono. So that basically leaves you with the immediate options to bulb (med or poly or mono) or to settle while your research is afloat and reach lib and currency without relying on someone else...

    Retry Emperor; Still Rough

if you research alpha you can trade, but have no trade bait, while with aesth you can trade your ability to trade, while still having a trade bait :)

    Retry Emperor; Still Rough

It's a good move to research aesth instead of alpha. Research 2 turns in to alpha and trade Aesth for alpha. Be sure to trade aesth for IW, Monotheism or math in order to keep alpha from the AI. With writing/libs and build research you should get to currency pretty easily and then trade gold...

    Trying Emperor; Got Stuck

I can't load your save right now. But the usual approach works quite well for me on emperor. Get some cities set up. Res Aesth, trade alpha. Res currency, CoL, CS. Bulb/res to lib. Slingshot steel or chemistry. Draft mass muskets from Globe theater and upgrade massed trebs oder whip/build...

Joao II Versus the world - Practice game

settler at size 2 without chopping really hurts. Especially if you r a few turns from growth. Its a pretty good move to queue another item and wait one or two turns for growth, than your settler production will be sped up by another productive tile. If you go BW first, use chopping!!! Grow on...

    Help on a 1675 AD Napoleon game(Monarch/Normal)

@vranasm Could you elaborate on the culture vs. theatre decision. I almost always build theatre first and it seems pretty solid to me. There will be immediated happiness from the culture slider, which is usually up from whipping, drafting and ww. + you can hire artist specialists, even if...

    Dog Soldier, seriously?

I don't like the DS so much, because you've got no option for an axe rush. That's really a serious drawback. Probably not so much on the higher levels. But it also makes a nice barb defender, which I really got to appreciate on Emp raging barbs.

    on cottage vs specialist economies

In most cities I will use the whip extensively and I will have only few cottages except in Capital. Most of the time I try to gather money by trades. Hired scientists come in handy when overexpanded. I will always aim for a short window of cannons and get some neighbours land :)

Why didnt I get a Great Engineer?

The ALC Frederick showcases a gambit like this on Monarch? level. You'll find extensive discussion there as well.

    Monarch Darius (rush fun)

@vranasm From the ALC I learned that you can check the AIs civics for slavery. If they're not in it they shouldn't have BW yet.

Empress Cathy: Help Me Set My Goals!

I wonder why nobody suggested chariot rushing Alex. He's a nut, he's close and horses are easily hooked up?
